Netflix’s published schedule identifies Season 5’s final installment as Episode 8, “The Finale,” and Netflix later said all episodes were playing on the service.
What is Conformity Gate?
“Conformity Gate” was a fan theory that spread after the series finale. Some viewers interpreted parts of the ending as a possible Vecna-created illusion and treated social-media imagery and other apparent clues as signs that Netflix would release a hidden ninth episode on Jan. 7, 2026. Contemporary coverage discussed the speculation, but it was never part of Netflix’s published release schedule. Forbes’ coverage of the theory provides context for what fans were claiming; it does not establish that a bonus episode existed.
What did Netflix actually release?
Netflix’s official Season 5 schedule divides the season into three releases: Episodes 1–4, Episodes 5–7, and Episode 8, labeled “The Finale.” Netflix’s teaser likewise describes the finale as Episode 8. Netflix Tudum’s release schedule and official teaser do not list an Episode 9.
The finale’s U.S. release date was Dec. 31, 2025, at 5 p.m. PT / 8 p.m. ET. Netflix’s schedule gives Jan. 1, 2026, dates for some other regions because the release fell after midnight there. Netflix’s finale announcement called it the series’ final episode and said it would release globally at 5 p.m. PT on Dec. 31. Read Netflix’s finale announcement for the stated rollout.
