Squid Game: America has not been officially confirmed by Netflix in the sources reviewed. Its status is also disputed: a production-industry listing updated October 4, 2026 describes the project as in post-production, while an August 6 report says it was reportedly no longer moving forward. That leaves the U.S. project’s status unresolved—not a confirmed Netflix announcement or a verified cancellation.
Is Squid Game: America officially announced?
No official Netflix announcement confirming Squid Game: America was found. Netflix’s official Squid Game title page describes the Korean series, while its Season 3 announcement calls that season the show’s third and final season. Neither source announces a U.S. spin-off.
Secondary sources have reported or listed a U.S. project, but those claims should not be treated as Netflix-confirmed news. The available reports conflict about whether it is proceeding.
Is the project happening or cancelled?
The two available status reports point in different directions:

| Production List, attributed to the Film & Television Industry Alliance | Updated October 4, 2026 | Lists Squid Game: America as a series in post-production. | A production-industry listing, not an official Netflix confirmation. |
| What’s on Netflix | August 6, 2026 | Reports that the project was reportedly no longer moving forward at Netflix. | A report about the project, not a Netflix statement. |
The later update to the production listing does not resolve the conflict because neither source is an official Netflix announcement. On the evidence available, it is not accurate to say either that Netflix has confirmed the series is being made or that it has definitively cancelled it.
Who is reportedly attached?
The Production List entry names David Fincher and Dennis Kelly and includes Kim Ji-yeon and Hwang Dong-hyuk among its production or writing credits. It lists Cate Blanchett as the only cast member. These are credits reported by that listing; Netflix has not confirmed them in the official materials cited above.

What is the reported premise?
The listing describes the project as a U.S. version set in the same world as the Korean series. It does not establish a detailed plot, and no independently verified story outline was identified. Treat claims about specific games, characters, or storylines as unconfirmed unless Netflix or another reliable source verifies them.
When could it be released?
No official release date has been verified. The Production List entry says filming was scheduled to begin in Los Angeles in February 2026, but that is a production-plan detail from the listing—not a confirmed shoot, completion date, or release window.

How it relates to the original Squid Game
Netflix describes Season 3 as the final season of the Korean series. That closes the original series as Netflix characterized it, but it does not by itself confirm or rule out a separate U.S. project.
For context, Netflix’s 2021 announcement introduced the original competition as involving 456 contestants and a 45.6 billion won prize. Those figures describe the Korean series announcement, not the reported American project.
