That makes it a natural series to compare with Dandadan—but there is no evidence that SANDA officially replaced it. One TechRadar reviewer called SANDA “the sleeper hit of the season” in a December 24, 2025 review; that is a critic’s assessment, not a measured popularity result.
What is SANDA about?
SANDA adapts Paru Itagaki’s manga, published by Akita Shoten. Science SARU describes it as a Santa Claus hero-action story. Its premise is more specific than “a crazy comedy”: the story unfolds in a dystopia where a 14-year-old can transform into a superpowered Santa Claus.

The series combines action and coming-of-age storytelling with an intentionally strange central idea. Its official description emphasizes hero action rather than defining it simply as a comedy.
Why compare SANDA with Dandadan?
The clearest connection is their animation studio: Science SARU produced both series. The official SANDA site also points to the studio’s work on Dandadan. That shared production credit gives viewers a reasonable basis for comparing the shows, but it does not establish that one replaced the other or that viewers moved from one to the next.

The official studio and series listings establish the shared studio and distinct manga origins; they do not provide audience figures demonstrating a handoff between the shows.
Is SANDA really the sleeper hit of Fall 2025?
“Sleeper hit” is an attributable critical opinion, not a verified measure of viewership or popularity. TechRadar used the phrase in its December 24, 2025 review of SANDA. No audience totals, rankings, or popularity percentages are established here, so the label should be read as that review’s verdict rather than a proven industry result.
