The six-episode Prime Video thriller follows a £4 billion pension-fund heist, but its pacing is uneven: TechRadar reviewer Jasmine Valentine praises the premiere and ending while finding episodes 3 and 4 repetitive.
What is Steal about?
Set at Lochmill Capital, a pension-fund investment company, the series begins when armed thieves disrupt an ordinary workday and force employees Zara and Luke to comply with their demands. Detective Rhys investigates who took £4 billion in people’s pensions and why. It is a fictional heist story, not a report about a real pension theft.
Prime Video lists Sophie Turner, Archie Madekwe and Jacob Fortune-Lloyd among the lead cast. The official series listing describes it as a “high-octane, heart-pounding thriller about the heist of the century”—promotional language, rather than an independent assessment. See Prime Video’s listing or Amazon’s viewing guide.
Is Steal worth watching?
For TechRadar’s Jasmine Valentine, the series is a qualified recommendation: its opening episode makes a strong impression, the middle loses momentum, and the finale brings the story to a satisfying close. Valentine writes that it is worth watching for the first episode alone, with the finale not far behind in satisfaction. That is one reviewer’s judgment, not a guarantee that every viewer will enjoy the season.

The opening and cast
The high-stakes setup gives the thriller an immediate source of tension. Valentine also praises Turner’s vulnerable performance and singles out Anna Maxwell Martin as a standout, while noting that Martin has relatively little screen time.
Where the pacing falters
The main reservation is the middle. Valentine finds episodes 3 and 4 repetitive rather than meaningfully advancing the story, and argues the season could have been four episodes instead of six. If you want every episode to maintain the premiere’s urgency, that stretch may test your patience.

Why the finale may be worth the wait
Valentine finds the finale nearly as satisfying as the premiere. The recommendation therefore depends on what you want from a thriller: viewers who value a strong setup and payoff may accept the slower middle; those who need consistent momentum may be less persuaded. Steal ending explained (spoilers)
Major plot spoilers follow.
TIME’s ending explainer identifies financial investigator Darren Yoshida as the heist’s mastermind. The story frames the theft as an effort to expose corruption in the financial industry. Darren offers Zara a role in his plan, but she refuses and leaves with a hidden wallet. This explains the published series’ ending; it should not be read as evidence about real-world financial institutions or pension crime. Read TIME’s full ending explainer.
