Oliver Odell, played by Nick Wechsler, dies after Jenna poisons him in the Season 2 premiere of The Hunting Party. Melissa Roxburgh’s remark that “nobody is safe” describes the series’ willingness to surprise viewers; it does not mean Oliver’s fate is still uncertain.
Who is the character Melissa Roxburgh was talking about?
It is Oliver Odell, Bex Henderson’s former FBI partner and colleague. Nick Wechsler plays Oliver, while Roxburgh plays Rebecca “Bex” Henderson, the former FBI profiler at the center of the series. Peacock’s series overview identifies both characters and describes the show’s investigators pursuing killers who escaped from a classified prison after an explosion.

Does Oliver die on The Hunting Party?
Yes. The Season 1 finale leaves Oliver’s fate unresolved after Jenna poisons him, but the Season 2 premiere confirms that he dies. The cliffhanger is resolved in the premiere rather than left open as an ongoing mystery.
What did Roxburgh mean by “nobody is safe”?
Roxburgh was talking about the show’s unpredictability and the possibility of major surprises, not suggesting Oliver might still be alive. In an interview with Precinct TV, she said, “I think the engagement now is that nobody is safe,” adding that viewers cannot know what will happen next.

How did the cast learn about Oliver’s fate?
In a separate Season 2 premiere interview with TV Insider, Roxburgh said the cast did not know Oliver would die when filming the Season 1 finale. “No. No. So they wrote that, and that we actually didn’t get to read that until the last minute, which sucked,” she said.
Why did the story kill off Oliver?
Executive producers JJ Bailey and Jake Coburn framed the decision as a story choice tied to Bex’s trajectory. Bailey said the writers found it creatively difficult to keep Oliver involved in field work and wanted his death to give Bex a reason to push forward and return to action. Coburn described Oliver as connected to Bex’s past as the story moved toward the characters in her future. These are the creators’ explanations for the narrative choice, rather than claims about how viewers responded.

What is The Hunting Party about?
The series follows a team tracking killers who escape from the Pit, a secret prison where inmates believed to have been executed were actually held. Bex is recruited after an explosion at the facility. Netflix Tudum’s February 17, 2026 guide recaps the premise and reported that all ten Season 1 episodes were streaming on Netflix at that time; availability can change.
