Kristen Bell plays Joanne, an agnostic sex podcaster; Adam Brody plays Noah, a newly single rabbi. Their courtship has lively dialogue and plenty of family interference, though the series is breezier about the cultural and religious tensions at its center than some viewers may want. Its first season’s ten episodes run 21 to 31 minutes each, making it easy to keep watching without requiring a full-length commitment.
What is Nobody Wants This about?
Netflix describes the series as a comedy about an agnostic sex podcaster and a newly single rabbi falling in love while navigating different lives and meddling families. Erin Foster created the show; Justine Lupe also stars. The premise puts the couple’s religious and cultural differences alongside the familiar rom-com questions of attraction, family approval, and whether two people can fit their lives together.
The relationship is the draw, but the story does not stop at the first spark. Season 2 turns to the couple’s friends, routines, holidays, birthdays, and expectations for the future. Foster told Netflix Tudum that those early relationship adjustments were a key interest of the season. Netflix Tudum’s January 8, 2026 account says Season 2 is streaming on Netflix.
Why the romance works
Bell and Brody make the pairing convincing
The central couple has the kind of comic ease that makes flirtation enjoyable to watch. TIME’s September 26, 2024 review praised the leads’ chemistry, the cast’s likability, and the dialogue’s quick, quippy rhythm, calling Season 1 “breezily watchable.” That is a critic’s assessment rather than a guarantee that every viewer will respond the same way, but it captures the show’s strengths: warm performances, fast exchanges, and a courtship that keeps moving.
#1 Best Overall
The short episodes suit its pace
Netflix lists ten episodes in Season 1, with runtimes from 21 to 31 minutes. That compact format helps the show feel brisk and makes an episode easy to fit into a short break. It can also make the season tempting to watch in quick succession, though how long a binge takes depends on your own pace.
Where the show may not work for everyone
The premise raises questions about interfaith relationships and Jewish identity, but the show’s light comic tone does not always explore those subjects in depth. TIME’s review found it short on insight into the realities of Jewish-gentile relationships. That gap matters if you want a romance to examine religious differences with sustained complexity rather than use them mainly as a source of tension and plot.

There has also been criticism of the series’ portrayals of Jewish women and its engagement with Judaism. In an Associated Press report published October 22, 2025, Rabbi Elan Babchuck, executive vice president of the National Jewish Center for Learning and Leadership, described his initial discomfort and continuing reservations, while also saying: “I celebrate the show. I think representation matters across the board, even when it’s in flawed form.” His response holds both points together: representation can be meaningful without making a portrayal immune to criticism.
Is it popular—and does that mean it is good?
The Associated Press reported that Netflix said Season 1 drew 57 million views in its first three months in 2024 and spent six weeks on Netflix’s Global English Top 10. Those figures indicate a substantial Netflix audience during the show’s initial run; they do not establish that viewers universally liked it or settle the question of its quality.
