Yes. Netflix is named as the future Pay-1 streaming home for Nintendo’s live-action The Legend of Zelda film, after its theatrical and home-entertainment runs. The film is planned to open worldwide in theaters on April 30, 2027. No title-specific Netflix streaming date has been announced, and the confirmed project is a film—not a Netflix-produced Zelda series.
What Netflix’s Zelda connection means
Netflix’s January 15, 2026 announcement named The Legend of Zelda among the first films covered by its global Pay-1 agreement with Sony Pictures. Under the deal, Netflix is the exclusive Pay-1 streaming home for Sony Pictures feature films after their full theatrical and home-entertainment runs. In other words, the announcement establishes a later streaming destination, not a Netflix production or a date when this particular film will arrive.
What Nintendo has announced
Nintendo’s announced project is a live-action theatrical film titled The Legend of Zelda. Nintendo’s September 8, 2026 announcement says it is based on stories, ideas, and concepts developed across 40 years of Zelda games; it does not identify a specific game as the film’s adaptation source.
| Role | Organization or person |
|---|---|
| Production | Nintendo and Arad Productions |
| Co-financing | Nintendo and Sony Pictures |
| Worldwide theatrical distribution | Sony Pictures |
| Director | Wes Ball |
| Producers | Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad |
| Cast | Bo Bragason as Zelda; Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link |
| Later Pay-1 streaming destination named in Sony deal | Netflix |
When might it stream on Netflix?
Nintendo’s currently announced plan is a worldwide theatrical release on April 30, 2027. Netflix has not announced a Zelda-specific streaming date. The Pay-1 window begins after the film’s full theatrical and home-entertainment runs, so its eventual Netflix arrival is later than those windows, but the official announcements reviewed do not establish how much later.

Netflix says the Sony deal will roll out gradually as rights become available in individual territories, with full global availability on Netflix under the agreement in early 2029. That is the timetable for the deal’s global rollout, not a promised premiere date for The Legend of Zelda; availability and timing may differ by territory.
Is Netflix making a Zelda series?
No Netflix-produced Zelda series is confirmed in the official announcements covered here. The announced screen project is Nintendo’s live-action theatrical film, with Sony Pictures handling worldwide theatrical distribution and Netflix named as a later streaming home through the Pay-1 agreement.

- Ultrahand: Using the new Ultrahand ability, Link can pick up, move, and rotate almost any object, and can even attach objects together to create bridges, vehicles, and more!
- Fuse: Magically fuse almost any object to Link’s current weapon, shield, or arrow to increase durability, damage, or even add a new effect. Experiment with lots of different combinations to come up with surprising—and sometimes hilarious—results!
- Ascend: Add a new dimension to your exploration with Ascend, which gives Link the ability to pass through solid objects above him. Rise up through ceilings, hillsides, and even certain enemies to create seemingly impossible shortcuts.
- Recall: Use Recall to make objects in motion move backward through time, letting Link ride fallen boulders skyward, recover thrown weapons, or send projectiles back where they came from.
What the Netflix audience figure does—and does not—tell you
Netflix said in its January 15, 2026 announcement that its service had over 300 million paid memberships in over 190 countries. That is a company-wide membership figure, not a forecast for Zelda’s audience, a count of people who will watch the film, or evidence of its expected performance on Netflix.
