Yes. Netflix has announced an animated series based on Stephenie Meyer’s Midnight Sun, retelling the first Twilight story from Edward Cullen’s perspective. Netflix described it as “currently in development” in September 2024, and listed it again in a December 2025 roundup. The official sources reviewed provide no release date or window.

What Netflix has confirmed

Netflix Tudum announced The Twilight Saga: Midnight Sun on September 4, 2024, as an animated series based on Meyer’s 2020 companion novel. Its premise is the familiar beginning of Twilight, retold through Edward’s point of view—not a new live-action version of the films. Netflix’s December 8, 2025 book-to-screen roundup continued to identify the project as an animated series, but added no release timing or production update.

Netflix’s original announcement called the series “currently in development.” That wording confirms the project’s announced status at the time; the later listing does not establish that production has begun. Read Netflix Tudum’s announcement and Netflix’s December 2025 book-to-screen roundup.

What is still unannounced?

In the official sources reviewed, Netflix has not announced a release date or window, episode count, voice cast, or production start date. That means there is no confirmed answer yet to when the series will arrive or who will voice Edward and Bella. Treat dates, casting claims, and episode figures circulating elsewhere as unconfirmed unless Netflix or the creators announce them.

Who is working on the series?

Netflix’s September 2024 announcement named Sinead Daly as writer and executive producer. The announced executive producers also include Meyer and her Fickle Fish Films partner Meghan Hibbett; Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen of Temple Hill Entertainment; and Erik Feig and Samie Kim Falvey of Picturestart. These are the names Netflix announced at that time; the official sources reviewed do not provide a later team or casting update. Netflix Tudum’s project announcement has the original credits.

How Midnight Sun differs from Twilight

Midnight Sun is Meyer’s companion novel to Twilight, not a separate sequel. It follows the early story from Edward’s perspective rather than Bella’s. The adaptation’s confirmed distinction is therefore its viewpoint as well as its format: the source is a novel, while Netflix announced an animated series.

Meyer’s FAQ explains that Edward’s apparent confidence in Twilight can look different when the reader sees his thoughts: she describes him as wracked with doubt and guilt, while Bella appears more serene from his perspective. Meyer also says the pomegranate on the novel’s cover alludes to the Hades and Persephone myth, which informs how Edward sees himself and Bella. Meyer’s Midnight Sun FAQ discusses those choices.

What Stephenie Meyer has said

In a September 2024 update, Meyer said she was excited to work with Netflix and to see the world of Twilight “without any of the restraints of live action.” She also cautioned that it would take time to make the series “as gorgeous as we know it can be.” Her comments signal enthusiasm for animation, but do not provide a release schedule. Meyer’s FAQ says she does not plan to rewrite another novel from a different character’s perspective. That is her stated plan in the FAQ, rather than a guarantee about any future work.
