CBS’s official guide describes NCIS Season 23 as a 20-episode season about Parker and the team, not as a storyline that replaces Ziva. The “revival trick” is better understood as a franchise-level pattern: NCIS: Tony & Ziva reunites the pair in a separate series, while Tony returns to the flagship in Season 24. Those are two distinct returns, not evidence that Season 23 made one character a substitute for another.
What Season 23 does—and does not—say about Ziva
Season 23 ran from “Prodigal Son, Part 1” on October 14, 2025, through “Sons and Daughters” on May 12, 2026. CBS’s official 20-episode guide describes cases and team stories involving Parker, McGee, Knight, Torres, and others. Its episode summaries do not identify Ziva as the subject of a replacement arc.
That distinction matters: a critical reading of the franchise’s return strategy is possible, but it is not the same as a plot fact. The available episode descriptions do not establish that Season 23 replaces Ziva, introduces a narrative equivalent, or was written with that intention.
Where the Tony and Ziva revival story actually happens
The reunion belongs to the separate spin-off NCIS: Tony & Ziva. Paramount+’s official premise explains the backstory: Tony left the NCIS team after Ziva was believed dead to raise their daughter, Tali; Ziva was later found alive, completed one final mission with NCIS, and reunited with Tony and Tali in Paris. The spin-off begins after an attack on Tony’s security company sends Tony and Ziva across Europe to find out who is pursuing them and rebuild trust. These are the series’ stated setup, not a Season 23 plot.

In a joint promotional statement about returning together for the spin-off, stars and executive producers Cote de Pablo and Michael Weatherly said: “Returning to these roles together on screen after more than a decade has been an unforgettable journey packed with lies, spies, danger, desire…..and self-driving murder cars.” The statement describes their return for NCIS: Tony & Ziva, not a Season 23 production choice.
How the franchise’s return moves differ

The comparison supports a limited but useful point: the franchise is drawing on familiar characters and their histories in two different series. The spin-off makes the family and relationship story central; the flagship’s Season 24 page promotes Tony’s return within the main-series framework. The available premises and listings do not establish the creators’ intent or how audiences responded.

Release timing and what is current
Paramount+ announced a 10-episode NCIS: Tony & Ziva release plan: three episodes premiered September 4, 2025, in the markets listed in its announcement, followed by weekly Thursday releases through an October 23 finale. That is the original schedule, not a guarantee of present availability in every country; check the local Paramount+ catalog.
As of October 8, 2026, CBS’s current NCIS page lists Season 24 and dates its premiere, “Wayward Son,” to October 6, 2026. It also promotes Michael Weatherly’s return as Tony DiNozzo. Season 23 is therefore a completed season, not the current one at that date.

The clearest answer to the headline
Season 23 is not shown, in CBS’s official guide, to replace Ziva. The “revival trick” is the broader use of a reunion and a familiar character’s return: Tony and Ziva’s shared story continues in their spin-off, while Tony is promoted as returning to the flagship in Season 24. Calling that a replacement would go beyond what the official season summaries and series premises establish.
