Its hidden anatomy remains unknown, so claims about an underlying tail are interpretations—not established canon.
Is Mimikyu’s tail part of its costume?
The visible tail belongs to the outfit Mimikyu presents as its disguise. In the official episode description for “Mimikyu Unmasked!”, the disguise is torn and Jessie repairs the ripped cloth. That establishes the covering as cloth, but the description does not say whether the tail shape conceals an anatomical tail.
Does Mimikyu have a real tail underneath?
The official material cited here does not answer that question. The episode description does not reveal Mimikyu’s true form, and the visible shape of the disguise is not proof of what lies beneath it. The most accurate answer is therefore that a real tail under the costume is unconfirmed.
Why the answer is left open
Pokémon Support says that unanswered questions about character origins, legends, and histories are meant to remain open to fan interpretation. Its guidance, updated January 30, 2026, states: “It is the intent of the Pokémon creators that questions that have not already been answered within the video games, animated movies, or TV shows, be left to the imaginations and interpretations of Pokémon fans.” Since the reviewed games, films, and shows do not establish Mimikyu’s concealed anatomy, fan theories about its tail should not be presented as canon.
