Spoilers for Severance Season 2, Episode 7. Episode 7 does not give a definitive answer about whether Mark survives the collapse that ends Episode 6. Instead, “Chikhai Bardo” turns largely to Mark and Gemma’s past and to Gemma’s experiences on Lumon’s testing floor.
Does Mark survive the Episode 6 cliffhanger?
At the end of Season 2, Episode 6, Mark collapses after his latest reintegration procedure, leaving his survival unresolved. Episode 7 does not provide a clear, categorical confirmation that he is alive. Its official synopsis—“An old romance intersects with a deadly present threat”—does not answer the question either. The available episode details therefore support an unresolved cliffhanger, not a definite yes or no.

TIME’s February 28, 2025 recap describes the shift in focus: “Chikhai Bardo” spends substantial time on Mark and Gemma’s history and Gemma’s confinement and testing at Lumon, rather than simply continuing the collapse scene.
What is “Chikhai Bardo” about?
Apple TV’s U.S. listing identifies “Chikhai Bardo” as Season 2, Episode 7. It lists a February 28, 2025 release date and a 50-minute runtime, and summarizes the episode as: “An old romance intersects with a deadly present threat.”

Mark and Gemma before Lumon
TIME reports that the episode opens in a flashback to Mark and Gemma meeting at a blood drive at Ganz College, where both were professors. Mark taught history; Gemma taught Russian literature. Their earlier relationship gives context to the emotional stakes, while the present-day threat remains in play.
Gemma’s testing-floor experiences
The episode also shows Gemma undergoing room-specific experiences on Lumon’s testing floor. TIME describes scenarios involving dental work, simulated flight turbulence and writing thank-you notes. These are presented as testing-floor experiments, not ordinary work assignments or voluntary participation.

Gemma has not entered the Cold Harbor room in the events described by TIME. The episode does not establish Lumon’s ultimate purpose for the testing floor or settle how its plans connect Mark and Gemma. Any broader explanation of the company’s motives remains speculation, not a confirmed reveal.

Apple TV Press describes the series as following Mark Scout, whose memories are divided between work and personal life by the severance procedure. Apple lists Season 2’s release date as January 17, 2025. That premise explains why the distinction between Mark’s work and personal lives matters, but it does not resolve the Episode 6 cliffhanger.
