She said “I quit” meant she was done giving attention to negative energy—not that she was leaving music or performing. She described making music and connecting with people as joys she would continue, as CBS News reported.
What did Lizzo mean by “I quit”?
In a late-March 2024 social post, Lizzo wrote that she was tired of being dragged by people in her life and online, ending with the words “I QUIT.” The post did not specify what she intended to quit, which led some readers to wonder whether she meant music. CBS News covered the ambiguity.

In a follow-up video published April 2, she explained: “When I say ‘I quit,’ I mean I quit giving any negative energy attention.” ABC News and The Guardian also reported that her clarification was about disengaging from negativity, not stopping her music career: ABC News and The Guardian.
What did she say she would continue?
Lizzo said: “What I’m not going to quit is the joy of my life, which is making music, which is connecting with people.” The statement made clear that the original post was not an announcement that she was retiring from music. The quotes here are as attributed in contemporaneous coverage, rather than an independent transcription of the video.

Why did the post prompt speculation?
The phrase “I QUIT,” without an explanation of what she meant, was open to interpretation. The follow-up supplied that missing context: she was quitting attention to negativity, while saying she would continue making music and connecting with people.
Some contemporaneous coverage also discussed a lawsuit brought by former dancers. Those claims were allegations, and Lizzo disputed them; her clarification about the post did not resolve the lawsuit or establish the truth of the disputed claims. TIME reported on the post, follow-up, and lawsuit context on April 2, 2024.

What the 2024 clarification does—and does not—tell us
The follow-up answered what Lizzo meant by her late-March “I QUIT” post: she was not saying she would stop making music. It was a clarification of that statement, not a report on her current release plans or present-day career intentions.
