ABC and Disney list Chris Carmack as returning as Atticus “Link” Lincoln for Grey’s Anatomy season 23, scheduled to premiere October 15, 2026. That confirms his season 23 presence; it does not establish what happens after that season.
What’s confirmed about Link in season 23?
ABC’s current series page names Chris Carmack as Atticus “Link” Lincoln and promotes the season 23 premiere for October 15, 2026. Disney’s season 23 preview, published October 1, 2026, also lists Carmack in the cast and gives the same premiere date. These are the clearest available indicators of Link’s immediate future: he is listed for the upcoming season.
Neither source announces that Carmack is leaving, but cast listings for season 23 are not a guarantee about later seasons. The available information does not establish Link’s status beyond season 23.
Why are viewers wondering if Link is leaving?
The season 22 finale left a health concern unresolved
Season 22 ended with “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” episode 18, which ABC lists as airing May 8, 2026, on its season and episode page. Disney’s preview says Link was concealing renewed shoulder pain and taking pain medication. That setup leaves a character-health question for season 23; it is not evidence that Link is leaving the hospital or the series. It also does not, by itself, establish an addiction diagnosis.

Link and Jo’s relationship is still an open question
Link’s personal story is unresolved, too. In a TV Insider interview published September 15, 2026, showrunner Meg Marinis said of Link and Jo: “We’ll have to see whether this couple can open up and help each other heal.” The wording frames their relationship as an ongoing story, not a confirmed breakup or exit. A May 11, 2026 Shondaland interview likewise described them as facing relationship and individual challenges.
