Yes. Netflix officially confirmed a KPop Demon Hunters sequel on March 12, 2026. Original co-directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans are returning, and Netflix says central characters Rumi, Mira, and Zoey will be back. There is no confirmed release date, sequel title, plot, or full cast list.
What Netflix has confirmed about the sequel
Netflix’s March 12, 2026 announcement confirmed that the follow-up is happening. It will be the first project under Kang and Appelhans’s exclusive multiyear writing and directing partnership with Netflix across animation. Netflix also described continuing to build the film’s universe with Sony Pictures Animation.
Netflix’s current FAQ says Rumi, Mira, and Zoey will return. That confirms the central trio, not every original supporting character or performer. Netflix has not announced a complete returning cast.
Who is directing KPop Demon Hunters 2?

Kang said she felt pride as a Korean filmmaker that audiences wanted more of the Korean story and characters. Appelhans said the filmmakers were excited to write the characters’ next chapter and continue exploring how music, animation, and story can work together. Both statements appeared in Netflix’s announcement and reflect the directors’ enthusiasm, not details about the sequel’s plot.
When will KPop Demon Hunters 2 come out?
Netflix has not announced a release date or release year. A 2029 date circulated in earlier reporting, but it was not an official Netflix schedule. On March 12, 2026, The Guardian described 2029 as a reported date believed to be too soon given the work required to make an animated feature. Treat it as an unconfirmed projection, not a confirmed target.

A What’s on Netflix report published February 12, 2026 said the filmmakers had been occupied with the original’s awards campaign and had not yet sat down to map out the sequel at that time. That report predates Netflix’s formal announcement and does not establish the project’s current production stage.
What will the sequel be about?
Netflix has not announced a plot or formal sequel title. Director comments point to a desire to continue the characters’ story, but they do not reveal what happens next. Specific storylines, new characters, or claims about the sequel’s production progress remain unconfirmed in the cited announcements.

Why Netflix is continuing the story
Netflix said the original had accumulated more than 500 million views on the service since its June 2025 debut, according to the March 12, 2026 announcement. Netflix also noted that the fictional group HUNTR/X became the first K-pop girl group to reach No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 and that “Golden” became the first K-pop song to win a Grammy Award. These are milestones Netflix cited for the original film and its music—not achievements of the sequel.
Netflix’s current FAQ also says the original won two Oscars, for Animated Feature and Best Original Song for “Golden.” Those awards help explain the film’s continuing profile, but they do not add a release date or other production details for the follow-up.

Are there KPop Demon Hunters 2 toys or merchandise?
The official merchandise currently documented by Netflix and its toy partners is tied to the original film, not the sequel. Netflix’s merchandise guide lists Mattel HUNTR/X “What It Sounds Like” fashion dolls, an American Girl collaboration, Old Navy film-inspired shirts, and Vans x KPop Demon Hunters footwear.
A joint Netflix, Mattel, and Hasbro announcement also described Hasbro’s planned 2026 product range, including plush, youth electronics, role-play products, and games. It said MONOPOLY Deal: KPop Demon Hunters was available for preorder starting October 21, 2025, with orders scheduled to ship January 1, 2026. That past preorder announcement does not verify current stock or retailer listings. None of these product announcements identifies merchandise as sequel-specific.
