It depends on your PC’s measured power draw, the marginal electricity rate on your bill, and the cloud pass you would actually buy. For an illustrative eight-hour session at an assumed 300 W, electricity costs ₹12.72 at ₹5.30/kWh or ₹18.48 at ₹7.70/kWh. Those are rates from Lakshadweep’s FY 2026–27 domestic tariff schedule, not India-wide rates. JioGames lists a ₹398 Pro Pass for 28 days, equivalent to about ₹14.21 per calendar day if spread evenly. Use your own tariff, workload and likely play days to find your answer.
What this comparison includes—and what it does not
This is a comparison of the PC’s electricity charge against the subscription charge for a cloud gaming service. It is not a universal verdict on which option costs less: electricity tariffs differ by jurisdiction and household circumstances, and the services do not provide identical bundles.
The calculation below excludes the cost or depreciation of a PC, internet service, power used by the device receiving a cloud stream, game purchases and ancillary fees. A PC you already own may also be useful for work or other activities; a cloud pass pays for access to that service’s offering. Compare what you would actually use, including the games or catalogue available to you and your internet connection.
Calculate the PC’s electricity cost
Use average wall draw, not the power supply’s rating
Use the PC’s average power draw at the wall while doing the activity you want to compare. A power supply’s maximum rating is not a measurement of how much the whole PC draws during a gaming session. If you have not measured the draw, treat the wattage as an assumption rather than a fact about your machine.

PC energy cost = (average watts ÷ 1,000) × hours × applicable marginal ₹/kWh
The result of watts ÷ 1,000 × hours is the energy used in kilowatt-hours (kWh). Multiply that by the marginal energy charge that applies to your household’s usage. An official WBSEDCL estimator likewise asks for wattage, number of appliances, hours per day and consumer type, and notes that its estimate excludes some other charges (WBSEDCL consumption calculator).

Worked example: eight hours at an assumed 300 W
This is arithmetic using a stated assumption, not a measurement of a particular gaming PC: 300 W ÷ 1,000 × 8 hours = 2.4 kWh.

Both rates are from middle domestic consumption slabs in the Department of Electricity, UT of Lakshadweep’s FY 2026–27 schedule. They are examples for that jurisdiction and schedule, not representative or average Indian rates. The schedule also lists a monthly fixed charge, which is not included in the session calculation.

Find the electricity rate that applies to your home
There is no single household electricity rate for all of India. Retail tariffs are determined by the appropriate electricity regulatory commission, and state subsidies may affect the amount domestic consumers pay, as the Ministry of Power explains in its 10 August 2026 release. Your bill can also include fixed charges, so distinguish those from the marginal energy charge when estimating the additional cost of running a PC.
As a dated, location-specific illustration, Lakshadweep’s FY 2026–27 domestic LTDS-II schedule lists ₹3.55/kWh for 0–100 units, ₹5.30 for 101–200, ₹7.70 for 201–300, ₹10.05 for 301–400, and ₹13.05 above 400 units, plus ₹25/kW per month in fixed charges (Department of Electricity, UT of Lakshadweep tariff order). Check your own state or utility’s current schedule and the household’s applicable slab rather than borrowing those figures.

Time-of-day rates may also matter where applicable. A 2023 Ministry of Power release describes a framework with rates 10–20% below normal during specified solar hours and 10–20% higher during peak hours; whether those adjustments apply to a particular household depends on its tariff and smart-meter applicability (Ministry of Power release on time-of-day tariffs).

JioGames currently lists its Pro Pass at ₹398 for 28 days (JioGames). Spread evenly across all 28 calendar days, that is approximately ₹14.21 per day. It is a calendar-day average, not a per-hour charge: unused days still count, while someone buying a short pass only for planned play days may use a different comparison.

The two PC figures are illustrative comparisons, not forecasts of anyone’s bill. The result changes with actual draw, hours played, tariff slab, selected cloud pass and how many days the pass is used. For a like-for-like session, divide the cost of the pass you would buy by the hours or play days you expect to use it; do not treat a subscription’s calendar-day average as though it were billed only while you play.
Check whether the services fit your use
- Games and access: Confirm that the cloud service offers the games you want and that its terms fit how you intend to play. JioGames says its passes can be played on TV, PC, tablet and mobile, with controller support; see its current offer details before buying.
- Internet and receiving device: Cloud gaming depends on a compatible device and a stable internet connection. Include the receiving device’s power if you want a broader household energy comparison.
- Existing hardware and games: Local ownership can serve uses beyond gaming, and you may already own games you want to play. A cloud pass buys access to that service’s offering instead.
- Other service prices: NVIDIA confirms payment methods for members purchasing in India on its GeForce NOW payment-methods support page, but an official India plan price and current play limits are not established here. Do not infer its price from another region.
How to get a useful estimate for your own bill
- Measure or estimate the PC’s average wall draw during your normal gaming workload. If you cannot measure it, write down the wattage as an assumption.
- Record the hours you expect to play in the period you are comparing.
- Check your current utility tariff for the applicable marginal energy charge, slab and any time-of-day terms. Account separately for fixed charges rather than treating them as a per-session energy rate.
- Calculate PC cost with (watts ÷ 1,000) × hours × marginal ₹/kWh.
- Choose the cloud pass and billing period you would actually buy. Compare its full price with the same expected play period; account for unused subscription days.
- Decide whether the comparison should include the PC’s broader uses, game purchases, internet, cloud-compatible device power or other fees. The energy-versus-pass calculation alone does not include them.
