Barbara Muschietti has suggested there may be more stories to tell in Stephen King’s It universe, but she has not confirmed that It: Chapter Three is approved or in production. Her comments, reported from a ScreenRant interview, express openness—not a greenlit movie, release date, or production plan.
What Barbara Muschietti said about another It story
Blunt Magazine reported on December 31, 2025, that Muschietti—producer of the It films and co-creator of It: Welcome to Derry—was asked about another chapter. She replied: “We shall see. It’s a universe. It is a universe, and there are characters that are still fascinating. There are more gaps.” She also said, “I don’t think this is the end, basically, is all I’ll say.” Blunt Magazine attributes the remarks to a ScreenRant interview.
Her comments point to creative interest in returning to the setting and exploring what she describes as gaps in King’s story. They do not say that a third feature film has been approved. The reports identify ScreenRant as the interview’s origin; the quoted statements here are reproduced as Blunt Magazine reported them.
Does that mean It: Chapter Three is happening?
No official approval, production schedule, cast, premise, or release date for It: Chapter Three is established by these comments. GeekTyrant likewise framed a third film as a possibility and said there had been no formal announcement when its article was published. That describes the status at that time, not a guarantee about later developments. GeekTyrant’s coverage also attributes Muschietti’s remarks to ScreenRant.

The headline-level “hint” is therefore limited: Muschietti says she does not think this is necessarily the end of the universe’s stories. That is not the same as confirming a sequel film.
How the proposed supercut differs from a sequel
A separate project may add to the confusion. In a January 20, 2026, report, The Direct said Andy and Barbara Muschietti had discussed a combined supercut of It and It Chapter Two, potentially incorporating additional scenes. The Direct reported that the supercut was not officially greenlit at publication. That proposed edit would combine existing films; it is not a new movie titled It: Chapter Three.

Why the book’s “gaps” matter to the comments

The 1986 novel is useful source material for readers interested in the world and story behind the films, but it is not a tie-in announcing a third movie.
