Usually, yes—for one encoder feed from an EU Hetzner Cloud server, the included traffic is enough for a typical 24/7 YouTube stream. Hetzner lists 20 TB/month for EU CX, CPX, and CAX Cloud servers. At a sustained 24 Mbps, one feed uses an estimated 7.78 TB in a 30-day month, before overhead and other server traffic. But Singapore allowances can be much lower, and a traffic quota does not guarantee a reliable route from India to YouTube’s ingest servers. Check the exact plan and test the actual server-to-YouTube stream before relying on it.
What “bandwidth” means for a 24/7 stream
For this decision, bandwidth has two separate meanings:
- Monthly traffic allowance: how much outgoing data the server may send before overage charges apply. Hetzner’s published allowance depends on server family, plan, and location.
- Transfer rate and route quality: whether the server can sustain the encoder bitrate to YouTube with acceptable latency, packet loss, and stability. A monthly allowance does not establish those conditions.
For a single encoder feed, the server sends one copy of the stream to YouTube. YouTube says it transcodes a live stream into multiple output formats for viewers, so the server’s egress calculation is based on the encoder’s bitrate—not the total hours watched by the audience. That changes if the server also relays the stream to other destinations or serves video directly to viewers. See YouTube’s encoder settings and live-stream guidance.
How much data does a 24/7 YouTube stream use?
The estimates below use decimal terabytes (1 TB = 1,000,000,000,000 bytes) and assume a continuous average bitrate for 30 days: bitrate in Mbps × 1,000,000 × 2,592,000 seconds ÷ 8. That works out to about 0.324 TB per month for each sustained 1 Mbps.

YouTube’s current recommended H.264 settings include 10 Mbps for 1080p30 and 24 Mbps for 1440p60. The 50 Mbps row is a planning example, not a cited YouTube recommendation for a particular resolution. These are arithmetic estimates, not vendor-published usage figures; actual usage can be higher because of protocol overhead, reconnects, a bitrate above target, other server egress, or a billing period longer than 30 days. YouTube’s settings are at Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
How Hetzner’s traffic allowance varies by region and plan
Hetzner’s traffic documentation lists 20 TB/month for EU CX, CPX, and CAX Cloud servers. For those families, US locations range from 1 to 5 TB and Singapore from 0.5 to 5 TB, depending on plan. CCX allowances differ: 20–60 TB in the EU and 1–8 TB in the US and Singapore. The figures are plan-dependent, not a universal allowance for every Hetzner Cloud server. Check the current table for the exact server family, plan, and location at Hetzner’s traffic documentation.

EU: generally enough quota for one typical feed
Against the 20 TB/month listed for EU CX, CPX, and CAX, the 10 Mbps and 24 Mbps examples leave meaningful room for this feed alone. A 50 Mbps feed is below the allowance mathematically, but uses most of it before other egress or overhead. Do not treat the remaining difference as guaranteed spare capacity.
Singapore: check the specific plan, especially at higher bitrates
A 10 Mbps feed’s estimated 3.24 TB/month exceeds the low end of the 0.5–5 TB CX/CPX/CAX Singapore range and is below its high end. A 24 Mbps feed’s estimated 7.78 TB exceeds the maximum 5 TB for those families. CCX plans in Singapore reach 8 TB depending on plan, which is close to the estimated use of a 24 Mbps feed even before overhead. Compare the exact plan with your expected usage rather than assuming Singapore has the EU allowance.

US: allowance is also plan-dependent
The listed US ranges vary by plan: 1–5 TB for CX, CPX, and CAX, and 1–8 TB for CCX. A 24 Mbps feed’s 7.78 TB estimate is above the former range and near the upper end of the latter. Verify the selected plan’s current allowance before choosing it for continuous streaming.
Will Hetzner charge extra if the stream exceeds the allowance?
Hetzner says Cloud traffic billing counts outgoing traffic only; incoming and internal traffic are free. Its FAQ says overage is rounded up in 100 MB blocks. Hetzner also sends usage notifications at 75% and 100%, but notifications do not cap traffic or prevent additional billing. Cloud servers are billed while they exist, including when powered off, so stopping the encoder does not stop the server charge. Review the current terms and usage details in Hetzner’s Cloud traffic and billing documentation.

Traffic allowance and server price are separate considerations. Hetzner’s price-adjustment page says updated prices applied to new orders and Cloud instance rescales starting 15 June 2026, with prices listed by server type and location excluding VAT. Because the price depends on family, location, currency, and IPv4 configuration, check the current price table for your exact setup rather than relying on a generic monthly figure: Hetzner price adjustments.

The allowance answers how much data can be sent under the plan; it does not establish the performance of a particular route from India to YouTube. Hetzner documents data-center parks in Nuremberg, Falkenstein, and Helsinki and describes backbone connections between parks. Its peering policy describes exchanges, private peering where appropriate, and transit providers, while noting that destination-side peering or available capacity can affect performance. Those descriptions do not promise latency, packet loss, route stability, or sustained throughput from a specific server to YouTube’s ingest endpoint.

Choose the intended server region and test the actual stream before depending on it. YouTube advises testing with audio and movement similar to the real stream, then monitoring stream health and reviewing messages during the event. Follow its guidance at YouTube Help; Hetzner’s location information is at Hetzner data centers and its network policy at Hetzner network.
A practical preflight checklist
- Confirm the exact server family, plan, location, and monthly outgoing-traffic allowance in Hetzner’s current table.
- Estimate traffic using the encoder’s average bitrate, not just the resolution label. Include other server egress and leave room for overhead and reconnects.
- Run a real test stream from the selected server using representative video motion and audio.
- Watch YouTube’s stream-health indicators and messages during the test; do not infer reliability from a successful server purchase or a traffic allowance.
- Monitor Hetzner usage notifications, while remembering that alerts are not spending caps.
