Morning
- Cleanse gently. Sharad suggests washing with water or using a soap-free cleanser.
- Apply a suitable moisturiser. In her general daytime layering order, moisturiser follows serum when serum is used.
- Finish skincare with sunscreen. She recommends sunscreen that protects against UVA and UVB. Makeup, if worn, goes over sunscreen.
Serum and toner are optional in the daytime routine she describes; she says toner is not essential.
Night
- Remove makeup and cleanse.
- Apply a hydrating serum or use a hydrating sheet mask. The excerpt names hyaluronic acid and vitamins C and E as possible serum ingredients.
- Add targeted cream if needed, then moisturiser. Sharad describes a mask as the final step when one is used.

How should skincare products be layered?
Sharad’s general rule is to apply thinner-textured products before thicker ones, and water-based products before oil-based products. Her daytime example runs from serum to moisturiser to sunscreen, with sunscreen as the final skincare layer before makeup. At bedtime, her example is cleanser, serum, any needed targeted cream and moisturiser; a mask comes last when used.
Vitamin C and moisturiser
In the excerpt’s routine, vitamin C serum goes before moisturiser. Sharad suggests leaving five minutes between the two. That interval is her advice in this book excerpt, not a universal requirement established for all products.

Toner and serum
Toner is optional. If used, Sharad places it after cleansing and before serum.
Niacinamide and vitamin C
Sharad prefers using these at separate times. If someone combines them, her advice is to apply the thinner-textured product first. This is a recommendation from the excerpt, not a settled rule for every formulation.

Retinol at bedtime
