That makes it reasonable to view it as part of the franchise’s official post-Buu story. But the official statements cited here do not explicitly label it “canon” or settle how every detail fits with both the Dragon Ball Super anime and manga.
What does “canon” mean for Dragon Ball Daima?
In this question, “canon” usually means whether a story belongs to the franchise’s accepted continuity, rather than being a separate, non-continuity spin-off. The answer depends partly on what evidence counts: official production and authorship establish Daima as a central Dragon Ball story, while a formal statement defining its continuity relationship to every other version would settle the matter more precisely.

The available evidence supports a qualified answer: Daima is an official, Toriyama-authored series described by its producer as directly connected to the Majin Buu saga. The sources do not supply an explicit canon ruling, so it is more accurate to call it an official post-Buu story than to claim that every continuity question is settled.
Why Daima is treated as an official Dragon Ball story
Toriyama’s creative role
Toei Animation announced DAIMA on October 13, 2023, as a new anime series with new episodes written by Akira Toriyama, who was closely involved in the original work, story, character design, and more. The Dragon Ball Official Site’s September 4, 2024 announcement credits Toriyama with the series’ original concept, story, and character designs. These are substantial creative credits, not a claim that the series is outside the franchise’s main story. Toei Animation’s 2023 announcement · Dragon Ball Official Site’s 2024 announcement

The connection to the Majin Buu saga
In a February 11, 2025 report, ComicBook.com quoted Dragon Ball producer Akio Iyoku saying: “Toriyama personally wrote the story, and it’s directly connected to the Majin Buu saga.” Iyoku also said, “We wanted to highlight how everything is interconnected…We’re not forcing new ideas into the story; we’re uncovering elements that were already present in Dragon Ball’s world.” These are Iyoku’s comments as reported by ComicBook.com; they describe the intended relationship to earlier Dragon Ball material, but do not amount to an official definition of “canon.” ComicBook.com’s report
Where Daima fits—and what remains unclear
The official Dragon Ball series chronology lists Dragon Ball DAIMA under 2024 with “Broadcast Commenced.” It separately records the start of Dragon Ball Super broadcast and serialization in 2015. This is a release chronology, not an in-universe timeline or a guide to how the different versions fit together.

The official DAIMA site describes Goku and company living peacefully before a conspiracy turns them small, leading them to discover a possible connection to the Demon Realm and encounter Glorio. That premise supplies the series’ setup, but it does not define its place relative to every later event in Dragon Ball Super.
- Established: Daima is an official Toei Animation series with Toriyama credited for its original concept or work, story, and character designs.
- Stated by the producer: Iyoku described it as directly connected to the Majin Buu saga.
- Not formally settled by these sources: an explicit canon designation, or a complete explanation of how every detail aligns with both the Dragon Ball Super anime and manga continuities.
Creator involvement and an official release are strong reasons to treat Daima as part of Dragon Ball’s official story. They are not, by themselves, proof that all adaptations share one seamless continuity. The most defensible wording is that Daima is an official Toriyama-authored Dragon Ball story directly connected to the Buu saga, while its exact relationship to every Super continuity is not explicitly defined in the cited statements.
