That was a statement about the council’s position at the time—not proof of Disney’s current intentions.
What did the 2024 report say about Werribee?
PerthNow’s 16 May 2024 report by Kayla Sellwood named Werribee, described in the story as roughly 30 minutes west of Melbourne’s CBD, as the rumoured location. The report quoted a Wyndham City spokesperson, speaking to the Herald Sun: “Wyndham City has not been approached by any organisation in relation to plans for a Disney-style park in our municipality.” PerthNow’s report
The wording matters: the council said it had not been approached. That historical account does not establish whether a proposal was considered or discussed elsewhere, and it cannot settle what may have happened since May 2024.
Did Victoria’s tourism industry confirm a Disney proposal?
No. The same report said Felicia Mariani, then identified as chief of the Victorian Tourism Industry Council, denied that Werribee was a possible location. She spoke in favour of the broader idea of a major attraction in the greater Melbourne region, whether Disney or another operator. That was an argument for the tourism value of a major attraction—not evidence of a Disney plan.

PerthNow also connected the rumour to news of Disney’s international expansion. Expansion elsewhere, however, does not establish that the company selected Victoria or Australia for a park.
What do Disney’s official updates announce?
The Disney materials consulted describe projects at existing destinations, not a Victoria park. The Walt Disney Company’s 10 August 2024 D23 announcement covered projects and expansions across its destinations, including Disneyland Resort. Disney’s D23 announcement
A Disney Parks Blog update dated 5 June 2025 described growth at Disneyland Resort in California, including a transportation hub and future Coco, Avatar and Avengers Campus experiences. Those are California resort projects, not plans for Werribee. Disney Parks Blog’s Disneyland Resort update
These announcements do not amount to a direct statement ruling out a later approach or proposal concerning Werribee. They simply do not announce a Victoria site.

What is known—and what remains unconfirmed?
- Known from the 2024 report: Werribee was the location named in the rumour, and Wyndham City said it had not been approached about a Disney-style park as of the statement reported that May.
- Also reported at the time: Mariani said Werribee was not a possible location while describing the potential value of a major attraction in the greater Melbourne region.
- Not established by these sources: a Disney agreement, a selected site, a planning application, construction schedule, ticket release or current proposal status.
- Official Disney updates reviewed: projects at existing destinations, including Disneyland Resort in California; no Victoria park announcement.
Werribee already has attractions including Werribee Open Range Zoo and Werribee Mansion, as PerthNow noted. Their presence provides local context, but does not indicate a Disney development.
