No: Daniel Day-Lewis’s 2025 return in Anemone means he is no longer simply “done” with acting. The headline phrase came from director Jim Sheridan’s 2024 account of what Day-Lewis had told him—not from a new public announcement by the actor. In 2025, Day-Lewis said he had come to regard his retirement declaration as a mistake, while announcing no further project in the interview.
Where the “done with acting” headline came from
In 2024, Jim Sheridan, who directed Day-Lewis in My Left Foot, told ScreenDaily that Day-Lewis “says he’s done.” The Independent reported Sheridan’s remark and his wish to work with the actor again. It was Sheridan’s account of their conversations, not a fresh statement from Day-Lewis himself. The Independent’s report

Sheridan and Day-Lewis are linked by My Left Foot, their 1989 film about Christy Brown. Sheridan’s comments about streaming and the experience of watching films were his views; they should not be attributed to Day-Lewis. BFI: My Left Foot

Anemone establishes that Day-Lewis did return to acting after the 2017 announcement. It does not establish that he plans to take on more roles or follow a regular acting schedule: the AP interview did not announce another future project. His 2025 festival appearances focused on the film, his preparation and collaboration with his son. At a BFI London Film Festival conversation, he said, “The process needs to be a joyful thing.” BFI London Film Festival conversation

What comes after Anemone remains unstated in the cited 2025 interview.
