Possibly—but the MonsterVerse has not confirmed that Dagon is Godzilla’s ancestor. In Godzilla: Aftershock, the characters consider the possibility and leave it unresolved; the story does not establish that Dagon was Godzilla’s father or a proven ancestor.
What the story says about Dagon and Godzilla
Dagon is an ancient Titan depicted as resembling Godzilla. His skeleton appears in the 2014 Godzilla film, and the 2019 graphic novel Godzilla: Aftershock gives him a larger role. In the comic dialogue transcribed by Wikizilla, Dr. Serizawa asks whether Dagon is an ancestor. Dr. Emma Russell replies: “It’s possible. Let’s not forget how little we know about his lifecycle.”
That exchange supports a possible connection, not a confirmed family relationship. The characters also use qualified language about Dagon as a “Godzilla-type creature,” rather than definitively identifying him as the same species. The careful answer is that Dagon may belong to Godzilla’s lineage, but the story leaves that open.
What Dagon’s backstory adds—and what it does not
As summarized by Wikizilla, Aftershock recounts Dagon’s conflict with MUTO Prime. Dagon is infected by parasitic young and eventually dies; his remains are later discovered in the Philippines. This history explains why the 2014 film’s skeleton matters to the wider story, but it does not settle his precise biological relationship to Godzilla.

Resemblance, a shared “type,” and possible ancestry are different claims. None alone proves that Dagon was Godzilla’s direct ancestor, and Emma’s answer explicitly leaves the possibility uncertain.
Which continuity is this answer about?
This is about Legendary’s MonsterVerse, not every Godzilla film, comic, or incarnation. Legendary describes Godzilla: Aftershock as a prequel graphic novel tied to Godzilla: King of the Monsters and as a continuation of the 2014 film’s story. Its 2018 announcement calls the book an entry into MonsterVerse canon. Those publisher descriptions establish where the story belongs; they do not independently confirm Dagon’s genealogy.
