No—“Surprise” was not an announcement that Bluey is ending. The episode’s future-set final scene looked like an epilogue to some viewers, but creator Joe Brumm explicitly said his comments about focusing on a film were not an end-of-show announcement. Producer Sam Moor also said the team had “more in store,” though that was not a formal renewal of a particular season.
Why “Surprise” made viewers wonder if Bluey was over
“Surprise” closes with a glimpse of the Heeler family in the future: adult Bluey returns to visit much older Bandit and Chilli, bringing her own child. The official behind-the-scenes feature describes the reveal as “the Heeler family of the future.” That flash-forward can feel like a closing epilogue, which helps explain the reaction captured in ABC News’ question from viewers: “Is this the end?!?!”. The official feature on the scene documents what the episode shows, not a decision to end the series.
The episode was released around the extended special “The Sign.” The official Bluey announcement listed its Australian transmission on ABC Kids for 21 April 2024 and streaming on ABC iview. Disney announced a Disney+ premiere on 20 April 2024 for the U.S. and many global audiences, subject to territory exclusions. What Joe Brumm said about the show’s future
In a letter on the official Bluey site, creator Joe Brumm said he was taking a break from involvement in the TV series to focus on a film. He described a possible fourth season as difficult to make alongside the third and said “The Sign” would be his TV finale only if he could not work out how to make more seasons himself. He then made the distinction explicit: “To be clear, this is not an announcement about the end of the show, but it is an acknowledgment that my focus will be on the film.” Read Brumm’s letter on Bluey’s official site.

That statement is about Brumm’s role and focus; it does not say that the series was canceled. It also does not confirm a specific future season. Those are separate questions, and the letter answers neither with a formal series order.
What the producer’s comment does—and doesn’t—confirm
ABC News reported on 22 April 2024 that producer Sam Moor said, “We have more in store and we’re thinking about what would be next.” That signals a stated intention to continue developing the franchise at the time, but ABC did not describe it as a formal renewal. ABC News’ report on the finale and reaction is evidence of Moor’s outlook then, not confirmation of a named season or release date.

Does “Surprise” confirm a fourth season?
No. A story’s glimpse of its characters years later is not the same as a commissioning announcement. Brumm’s letter rejected the idea that his comments announced the show’s end; Moor’s comment indicated that more was being considered. Neither statement established a specific next-season order. The statements cited here are from April 2024, so they should not be treated as a complete account of any later status change.
