In its April 16, 2025 finale coverage, TheWrap reports that Ava returns to the principal’s desk and begins what the show calls a “second term.” The finale therefore resolves the job uncertainty by bringing her back to Abbott.
What the finale says about Ava’s future
Showrunner Justin Halpern described the arc as a shift in how viewers understand Ava: “She is growing a little bit, but really what’s happening is the audience is understanding of her is growing.” Halpern also said Ava chose to return to the school despite the possibility of earning more elsewhere. The firing and return serve her character arc, rather than setting up a real-world cast exit. TheWrap’s April 16, 2025 interview attributes those remarks to Halpern.

The finale also leaves room for Ava’s relationship with O’Shon, played by Matthew Law, to continue developing. In an April 16, 2025 interview, executive producers Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker described the finale as a quieter coda after Ava’s intense four-episode arc and discussed story possibilities for the pair.
