Invincible’s Strongest Viltrumites, Ranked (Comic Continuity)

Thragg leads this comic-continuity ranking, with Conquest, Omni-Man and late-series Mark among the strongest contenders. Battle Beast is a useful benchmark, but not a Viltrumite.

Thragg is the strongest Viltrumite in the Invincible comic continuity. The best case comes from his late-series confrontations and the level of opponent required to challenge him. Omni-Man and Conquest are also elite fighters, while Mark Grayson’s place depends on which point in his long development you mean. This is an evidence-based ranking, not an official power list; it weighs direct fights, opponent quality, consistency, endurance, circumstances and story chronology.

How this ranking works

This list covers the comic story, not the animated adaptation. Image Comics’ series overview identifies Mark as a teenager whose powers come from his Viltrumite father, Nolan Grayson, also known as Omni-Man. The ranking gives the most weight to combat outcomes and demonstrated feats, then considers consistency, the quality of opponents, endurance and the circumstances of each encounter. A victory is evidence, not a universal measure of strength: injuries, surprise and chronology can change what a fight shows.

There is no official published ranking or numerical strength scale to settle every placement. In particular, Mark changes considerably over the course of the comic, so this list ranks his late-series version rather than treating every appearance as the same fighter.

1. Thragg

Thragg has the strongest overall claim. The late-series story places him at the center of major confrontations, with Image Comics’ catalog anchoring that material in issue #115 and issue #120. Those listings establish the relevant story context; the ranking itself comes from reading his combat record across the comic, not from a publisher-issued statistic.

A secondary ranking also places Thragg above Omni-Man and Mark together, but that is an interpretation rather than an official measurement. The more defensible conclusion is that Thragg is the leading pick among Viltrumites, while the exact margin separating him from other elite fighters is not precisely quantifiable.

2. Conquest

Conquest is one of the clearest high-tier contenders. Image Comics’ issue #61 listing introduces him as a major threat, and issue #76 situates the broader conflict in the Viltrumite War.

His position relative to Omni-Man and Mark should be judged through the circumstances and timing of their encounters. An opponent’s injuries, a surprise attack or a character’s stage of development can all affect a result. Conquest belongs near the top because of the threat he presents and his combat showings, not because a single fight creates a permanent, context-free ranking.

3. Omni-Man (Nolan Grayson)

Omni-Man is an elite Viltrumite and a useful benchmark for the others. Image’s series page establishes him as Mark’s father and identifies the Viltrumite source of Mark’s powers. His standing rests on what he demonstrates in the comic, especially in war-era conflicts, rather than on reputation alone.

He ranks below Thragg and Conquest here because the story’s strongest comparisons place those characters in a higher tier. That is an editorial judgment from the combat record, not an explicit official ordering. It also does not mean Nolan would lose every possible matchup: condition, tactics and timing matter.

4. Mark Grayson (late-series Invincible)

Mark is ranked as a late-series fighter, not as the inexperienced version introduced at the beginning. His development across the comic makes an unqualified placement misleading: early Mark and late Mark are not interchangeable when comparing experience, capability or performance.

Image Comics’ listings for #115 and #120 anchor important late-story confrontations, but short catalog descriptions do not by themselves establish a full power comparison. The ranking reflects the comic’s broader progression: late-series Mark is among the strongest, but Thragg remains the better-supported top choice. Whether Mark is described as having the greatest potential or the greatest demonstrated strength depends on the point in the timeline being discussed.

Where Battle Beast fits

Battle Beast is not a Viltrumite, so he does not qualify for a species-based list. He is useful as a benchmark for the upper end of the comic’s combat hierarchy: secondary coverage describes a prolonged fight between him and Thragg. A long or intense fight, however, does not prove the participants are equal in strength. Matchups also reflect endurance, tactics, injuries and circumstances, so Battle Beast provides context rather than a valid Viltrumite ranking slot.

What the ranking can—and cannot—settle

  • Strongest overall: Thragg is the best-supported choice among Viltrumites in the comic continuity.
  • High-tier challengers: Conquest, Omni-Man and late-series Mark each have substantial claims, but their exact ordering is interpretive.
  • Version matters: Mark’s placement changes with the point in the story; a ranking should specify whether it means early, late or peak demonstrated strength.
  • One fight is not a universal statistic: opponent quality matters, but so do injuries, surprise, endurance and chronology.
