The “lost” Invincible from 2008 was not an earlier version of Prime Video’s animated series. It was an MTV motion comic: the original comic panels were made to move and paired with voice performances. Fan recovery reports in 2025 said the first episode and volumes 1–4 had resurfaced, but that does not establish that the full series is recovered or officially available to watch.
What was MTV’s 2008 Invincible?
MTV New Media adapted Robert Kirkman and Cory Walker’s comic as a motion comic, a format that uses the source artwork rather than drawing a fully animated production from scratch. The panels were framed and moved to create motion, with actors voicing the dialogue. MTV worked with Gain Enterprises, associated with the Bomb-xx process used to move through comic artwork. TVLine’s retrospective and Dexerto’s March 24, 2025 report describe the format and production.

That distinction matters: it is an adaptation of the comic, not a conventional animated television series. The collected Invincible comics are related reading for anyone curious about the artwork and story, but they are not a release of the motion comic itself.
How was it released, and why did it become hard to find?
Retrospective accounts say MTV2 broadcast the work and that it was distributed digitally through iTunes and other storefronts. A 2025 account also lists Xbox Live and MTV Mobile among the original channels. The MTV web pages that once hosted it are gone, and the old distribution routes no longer provide a straightforward way to watch it, according to TVLine and Dexerto.

Its disappearance from those channels is why people describe it as lost media. That label does not mean every copy vanished: fan-held copies and later recovery reports complicate the picture.
What has reportedly been recovered?
In 2025, community posts reported that the first episode had been found and that volumes 1–4 were available. The r/lostmedia recovery post and a related discussion are community evidence, not confirmation from MTV or another rights holder. GamesRadar+ also covered the rediscovery and surviving material.

Accordingly, the most accurate description is partially recovered and still difficult to access through established official channels. The reports do not verify a complete set of installments, a new authorized release, or a current official streaming destination.
Why do sources give different episode counts?
Published accounts use different catalog terms, and the available sources do not reconcile them. Dexerto reproduces MTV promotional wording calling it a “36-part series,” while GamesRadar+ describes six volumes. Dexerto also reports that an old Amazon listing showed 13 episodes.
Rank #3
| Count | How the source describes it | What it does—and does not—establish |
|---|---|---|
| 36 | “Parts” in MTV New Media promotional wording reproduced by Dexerto | A promotional description, not a verified count of catalog episodes or volumes. |
| Six | Volumes in GamesRadar+’s description | A volume count; the source does not establish that each volume equals a particular number of episodes. |
| 13 | Episodes in an old Amazon listing, as reported by Dexerto | A storefront listing count, not a confirmed total of parts or volumes. |
“Parts,” “volumes,” and “episodes” should not be treated as interchangeable. The sources also do not establish a verified audience, sales, or recovery-rate figure.

The 2008 MTV motion comic and the later Prime Video series are separate adaptations of Invincible. The older work animates and frames comic artwork; the newer series is a full animated production. They also have different distribution histories: the motion comic’s former MTV-era channels are no longer straightforward access points, while the fan-recovery reports do not establish official availability. The existence of the newer series on Prime Video is not evidence that the 2008 motion comic is there.
