There, Mark is drawn into a fight over Satan’s rule, with Volcanikka identified as the opposing force. The episode’s detour offers a supernatural side story amid the season’s larger pressures, rather than a resolution to its main threats.

What happens in “Hurm”
Mark’s day takes an unexpected turn
The episode opens with Mark visiting Art, according to The Review Geek’s episode review. That Earth-side moment gives way to a far stranger interruption: Damien Darkblood summons Mark to the Under Realm. The episode listing describes it as the place mortals call Hell, where a threat to Satan’s rule has drawn Darkblood into a conflict. TV Guide’s listing outlines the summons and the dispute.
A conflict over Satan’s rule
Mark is pulled into the struggle against Volcanikka, whom GamesRadar+’s episode coverage identifies as the adversary in the Hell storyline. The unusual setting makes this a distinct adventure for Mark, but the episode’s premise should not be taken as a complete explanation of the series’ cosmology beyond what the installment depicts.

Darkblood’s helmet gets a moment
The episode also finds room for a comic exchange: Mark questions Darkblood’s helmet, and Darkblood explains that he speaks more clearly without it, as GamesRadar+ reports. The gag briefly lightens a story built around a demonic power struggle without turning the episode into a straight comedy.
How the Hell story fits the season
Season four’s larger setup is more grounded in the aftermath of catastrophe: Prime Video’s synopsis says the world is recovering while Mark wrestles with guilt and tries to protect his home and loved ones. Amazon’s season guide also names Thragg, Dinosaurus, and Universa among the season’s threats. “Hurm” places Mark’s turmoil alongside an abrupt supernatural assignment, but its Hell plot is a side story, not evidence that those wider conflicts are resolved.
Rank #2
That distinction is reinforced by TV Insider’s interview coverage, which describes the Hell tale as original to the television series rather than part of the comic’s story arc. It is an opportunity for the show to put Mark in a self-contained situation that contrasts with the season’s continuing stakes.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why Mark’s timing feels so bad
The episode’s central joke and tension come from the mismatch between Mark’s ordinary superhero obligations and the scale of Darkblood’s summons. Mark is not simply asked to handle another threat on Earth; he is diverted into a conflict in a realm with its own ruler and challenger. The Review Geek reads that detour as putting Mark’s situation in perspective. That is the reviewer’s interpretation, rather than a confirmed statement of creator intent.
