In “I Thought You Were Stronger,” Mark Grayson defeats Angstrom Levy—but the victory leaves him horrified by how far he went. Levy’s threat to Debbie and Oliver turns Mark’s fear of inheriting Nolan’s brutality into an immediate, personal crisis. The episode, Season 2’s eighth and final installment, runs 54 minutes and was listed for April 4, 2024 on Prime Video’s regional page.
Why Angstrom Levy comes after Mark’s family
The finale cuts between Nolan in Viltrumite custody and Mark at home. Nolan has recovered enough that General Kregg considers him ready for execution. Allen contacts him with an offer: the Coalition of Planets wants his help against the Viltrumites. Nolan asks that Mark be allowed to live his own life and admits that he misses Debbie.
Back on Earth, Angstrom Levy confronts Mark’s family. Debbie and Oliver are within Levy’s reach, so Mark hesitates to attack. That hesitation is not a lack of resolve; it is the problem Levy exploits. Mark must fight while trying not to put the people he loves in greater danger.
What happens in the portal fight
Levy sends Mark through portals into hostile alternate worlds, including one with intelligent, dangerous dinosaurs and another shown as a ruined, zombie-filled landscape. The jumps repeatedly interrupt the fight and disorient Mark. Each return to the confrontation brings the same immediate dilemma: stop Levy without letting him hurt Debbie or Oliver.

Levy’s altered body allows him to challenge Mark physically. When Levy again endangers the family, Mark’s restraint gives way. He beats Levy to death.
Why Mark kills Levy—and what the aftermath shows
The episode makes the killing the emotional cost of the spectacle. Mark has protected his family, but he has done so with lethal force he did not expect from himself. Instead of treating the outcome as a clean victory, the finale stays with his shock and guilt. He wanders the wasteland, unable to make sense of what he has done and afraid that the violence means he is becoming like Nolan.

That fear is already part of the season’s premise: Prime Video frames Mark as worried about becoming his father. Here, the question becomes harder than whether Mark can resist Nolan’s influence in theory. Mark has made a choice under extreme pressure, and now has to reckon with it without assuming that one terrible act settles who he is.
What “I Thought You Were Stronger” means
The title phrase lands as a bitter, disoriented reaction after the fight. Mark has used more force than he expected, and the line reflects his shock at the result as much as the brutality of the encounter. It is not a triumphant catchphrase. The person Mark can no longer understand is, in part, himself.

The title’s irony sharpens the episode’s central tension: physical strength has helped Mark protect his family, but it has also made the consequences of losing control devastating. The finale leaves him with no easy distinction between his own choices and the legacy he fears.
How Nolan’s story parallels Mark’s
Nolan’s prison scenes offer a contrast, not a resolution. He expresses remorse, asks that Mark be left alone, and says he misses Debbie; he also faces the possibility of execution. Mark, meanwhile, has just committed an act he cannot take back and is still trying to understand it. Both stories ask what accountability means after violence, but they leave the characters at different points: Nolan is contemplating consequences, while Mark is confronting what his actions might say about him.

Allen’s contact also keeps the family drama connected to the larger conflict. The Coalition’s request makes clear that Nolan’s fate is tied to the war with the Viltrumites, even as Mark’s immediate crisis is intensely personal.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the ending leaves unresolved
The episode closes on emotional fallout rather than a tidy answer to Mark’s fear or Nolan’s future. Nolan’s prison situation and the possibility of reunion with Debbie remain active story threads. AIPT describes the ending as a subdued transition to the next season; that is the outlet’s reading of the finale, not a guarantee about what happens next. The final note is Mark alone with the consequences of the fight.
