Pi is a 77.25-metre Feadship motor yacht whose most distinctive documented feature is an all-glass exterior envelope. News reports identify Starbucks leader Howard Schultz as its owner, but neither the builder’s record nor the reviewed reporting establishes a current official valuation. The often-repeated $145 million figure is a 2023 media estimate, not a confirmed sale price or appraisal.
What is Pi?
Feadship’s fleet record identifies Pi as hull 818, built in 2019 and launched as SYZYGY 818. The builder lists Kaizen as another previous name and Pi as the current name. Its July 2019 announcement said Project 818 would be called SYZYGY 818: “syzygy” is an astronomical term for the alignment of three heavenly bodies, while 818 held significance for the commissioning owner. Feadship’s record does not identify the yacht’s present beneficial owner. Feadship’s fleet record and its July 2019 announcement document the build and naming.
The Royal Gazette reported in 2021 that the yacht was originally built for financier Robert Friedland and later identified Schultz as its owner. That report does not provide a transaction date or sale terms, so it is not a verified chain of title. The Royal Gazette’s 2021 report is the source for that account.
What is known about Pi’s design?
Feadship credits naval architecture to Feadship De Voogt Naval Architects, exterior design to Jamsen, and interior design to Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design. The builder’s record describes an “all-glass envelope”: large clear panels curve both vertically and horizontally, and each has a distinct mathematical form. Feadship says the panels contribute to the yacht’s watertight integrity. This is a description of the construction, not evidence of a walkthrough or independent inspection of the interior.

The glass is the standout feature documented by the shipyard. Feadship says, “The evolution in the way glass is deployed as part of a yacht’s construction reached a new pinnacle with the unveiling of SYZYGY 818.” That is the builder’s own characterization. The fleet record also lists Pi as 2020 Motor Yacht of the Year and as winner of its best displacement motor yacht award in the 1,500–1,999 gross-tonnage category. Feadship’s fleet record supplies these design and award details.

The following figures come from Feadship’s official fleet record for hull 818. They are the builder’s listed specifications, rather than independently measured performance figures.

Press reports describe some onboard amenities, but those details are not all included in the builder’s specification record. The Royal Gazette reported a “touch and go” helicopter pad, a glass-bottomed swimming pool, capacity for 12 passengers and a crew of 18. ITV’s 2021 report also mentioned a helipad, pool and spa. Those reports give different passenger and crew counts from Feadship’s listing of 10 guests and 20 crew; the sources do not explain whether the difference reflects terminology or another convention. The $145 million figure in the title comes from a Luxurylaunches feature published in 2023. Other outlets have reported substantially different estimates. None of the reviewed sources is a primary valuation or transaction record, so these figures should be treated as media estimates—not as a confirmed market value, sale price or current appraisal.

A later SuperYachtFan page gives a $300 million estimate, but its listed vessel specifications conflict with Feadship’s official record, making it a weaker basis for describing Pi. SuperYachtFan’s Pi page is therefore not a sound primary reference for the yacht’s value or technical details. Different publication dates, currencies and estimation methods may help explain why the media figures diverge, but the precise current value is not established.
