Inside Out 2 completed its staggered U.S. home release in 2024: digital purchase began August 20, 4K Ultra HD/Blu-ray/DVD arrived September 10, and Disney+ streaming began September 25. The Pixar sequel is now available on Disney+ in the United States, while digital and disc editions remain alternatives for viewers who prefer ownership.
When can you watch Inside Out 2 at home?
| Format | Date | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Digital purchase | August 20, 2024 | Buy a copy through participating digital retailers such as Prime Video, Apple TV, or Fandango at Home. |
| 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD | September 10, 2024 | Own a physical copy for compatible players and offline viewing. |
| Disney+ | September 25, 2024 | Watch through an active Disney+ subscription rather than owning the film. |
Disney announced the digital and physical dates in its home-release announcement, and confirmed the streaming date in a Disney+ release notice. August 20 was a purchase date, not a Disney+ streaming date.

Is Inside Out 2 on Disney+ now?
Yes. Disney’s U.S. listing shows Inside Out 2 available to stream. The listing checked on August 18, 2026 displayed plans beginning at $11.99 per month and another tier beginning at $35.99 per month. Those figures are U.S. signals from that date, not universal prices: taxes, advertising, bundles, promotions, plan changes and national catalogs can differ. Why the box office was extraordinary
The film opened to approximately $155 million in the United States and Canada and about $295 million worldwide, according to the Associated Press. It reached $1 billion worldwide in 19 days. Disney called that the fastest an animated film had reached the milestone at the time and also described the movie as 2024’s highest-grossing film when it crossed the billion-dollar mark.

- Disney and Pixar?s ?Inside Out 2? returns to the mind of newly minted teenager Riley just as headquarters is disrupted by something entirely unexpected: new Emotions! Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust aren?t sure how to feel when Anxiety and friends show up.
In July 2024, Disney announced that the sequel had become the highest-grossing animated film worldwide. That is a historical claim about the position at the time of the announcement, not a guarantee that it remains the all-time leader in 2026. The film also had the second-biggest domestic opening for an animated movie at its debut, behind Pixar’s Incredibles 2, according to Disney’s opening-weekend announcement.
Why its theatrical run mattered
Inside Out 2 arrived after Pixar’s theatrical momentum had weakened and several Pixar releases had bypassed cinemas for Disney+ during the pandemic period. Its opening showed that audiences would still make an animated film a major theatrical event, giving cinemas an important summer boost during a difficult 2024 season, as the AP reported.

The result restored confidence in the theatrical value of Pixar properties, but it does not mean every sequel will perform similarly. This film combined an established franchise, broad family and multigenerational appeal, recognizable characters, a summer release, strong word of mouth and international reach. Those factors worked together rather than producing a guarantee for every future animated release.
What is the movie about?
Riley is now a teenager, and the headquarters of her mind is disrupted by new emotions including Anxiety, Envy, Ennui and Embarrassment. Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust must adapt as Riley’s identity, friendships and social pressures become more complicated.

Kelsey Mann directed the film and Mark Nielsen produced it. Disney lists it as PG. Its official Disney movie page gives a runtime of approximately 1 hour 36 minutes; Disney+ displays approximately 1 hour 43 minutes, so runtime can vary by platform metadata. Which home version should you choose?
| Your situation | Best fit | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| You already pay for Disney+ | Stream it there | Access depends on an active subscription and catalog availability. |
| You want one viewing without another monthly bill | Compare a digital rental or purchase at a live retailer | Terms, resolution, subtitles, audio and extras vary by retailer and country. |
| You want a copy tied to your household library | Digital purchase or physical disc | Digital access remains linked to the retailer account; discs require hardware. |
| You have a 4K television and compatible player | 4K Ultra HD edition | The benefit is limited on non-4K equipment. |
| Your internet connection is unreliable | Blu-ray, DVD or 4K disc | Requires a compatible player and physical storage. |
| You want a collectible or possible bonus material | Check the specific physical edition | Package contents and extras differ by edition and retailer. |
| You are traveling internationally | Check local Disney+ and retailer rights | Catalogs and purchase options are territory-specific. |
Disney+
Streaming is the simplest choice for households that already subscribe and want playback across supported devices. It is not ownership, and picture quality depends on the device, internet connection and plan.

Digital purchase
A digital copy avoids a recurring subscription if you only want this film or prefer a storefront you already use. Access is tied to that retailer’s account and supported devices. Disney’s 2024 campaign named Prime Video, Apple TV and Fandango at Home, but current listings, prices and features should be checked directly; no universal 2026 purchase price is established here.
4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD
The September 10, 2024 discs suit collectors, families seeking offline playback and viewers with compatible home-theater equipment. Retail stock, prices and package contents vary. The release announcement establishes the formats and date, but not one identical bonus-feature list for every edition.

How big was its Disney+ debut?
Disney reported 30.5 million global views during the film’s first five days on Disney+, calling it the platform’s biggest film premiere of 2024 by that measure. “Views” is Disney’s reported metric; it should not be read as a published total of complete watches or watch-hours. See Disney’s streaming-performance announcement.
Quick Recap
What to check before paying
- Make sure a listing says purchase or rental if you do not want a subscription; do not confuse either with Disney+ access.
- Check your country, retailer account, supported devices, subtitle and audio options.
- For 4K, verify that your television, player and receiver support the format.
- Compare the exact physical edition if bonus features or packaging matter.
- Treat old 2024 preorder prices and promotional Disney+ offers as historical, not current prices.
Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
