Defy is the current listed name of the 94-metre Feadship motor yacht launched in 2021 as Viva. Frank Fertitta III was reported as its owner in 2022 and 2024, but the accessible vessel profile does not identify a current owner. Nor is US$250 million a confirmed price: published estimates differ, and neither is established as a sale price.
Viva and Defy are the same yacht
The yacht in the title is not a sailing yacht: SuperYacht Times classifies it as a motor yacht. Its vessel profile now uses the name Defy and lists Viva as its previous name. Feadship, the Dutch builder, launched it in 2021. SuperYacht Times’ vessel profile is the source for the current listing name and technical particulars.
Frank Fertitta III was identified as the owner in Boss Hunting’s 2022 coverage and in Forbes Australia’s 2024 feature. Those are dated reports, not confirmation of present ownership. The current SuperYacht Times profile does not publicly disclose an owner. A separate search-indexed report has associated the yacht with a later sale to Ken Griffin, but that claim is not sufficiently substantiated here to present as settled fact.
Why the “$250 million” figure needs context
The title’s US$250 million figure is not a verified valuation or transaction price. Boss Hunting’s 2022 headline used “$250 million,” while its article body gave a different currency pairing: US$175 million / AU$252 million. The AU$252 million equivalent appears to be the basis for the headline’s rounded figure, but the headline labels it in US dollars. Forbes Australia gave an estimated value of US$190 million in a 2024 list. These are estimates reported at different times, not confirmed sale prices or a current valuation.

Scale, construction and design
At 94 metres (308 feet 5 inches) overall, Defy is a large custom motor yacht. Its 2,999 gross tonnage describes enclosed volume, not weight. The profile lists a 14-metre beam and a maximum draught of 3.9 metres. Its steel hull and aluminium superstructure combine a steel underwater body with a lighter upper structure.

The design credits are divided among specialist firms. SuperYacht Times lists Azure Yacht Design & Naval Architecture and De Voogt Naval Architects for exterior design, names De Voogt as naval architect, and credits Peter Marino with the interior. Feadship is the builder.

Engines, speed and onboard features
SuperYacht Times lists two diesel MTU 16V 4000 M73L engines with total output of 5,840 kW (7,832 hp) and a top speed of 20 knots. Forbes Australia described the yacht’s propulsion system as diesel-electric hybrid; that description is attributed to Forbes, while the vessel profile specifies the engines and output.
Boss Hunting’s 2022 account lists formal dining, a cinema, gym, beauty salon and helipad among the amenities. These are features reported in that article, rather than a complete or independently verified current inventory.

SuperYacht Times lists accommodation for 14 guests. Boss Hunting reported seven cabins and a crew of 18 in 2022. The guest capacity and the reported cabin and crew details come from different dated sources, so the crew figure should not be read as a current staffing manifest.
