India: How to Make a 24/7 YouTube Stream of Gujarati Children’s Stories with FFmpeg

You can use FFmpeg to loop a prepared playlist of Gujarati story videos and send it to a YouTube Live event—but FFmpeg does not guarantee a 24/7 broadcast by itself. You need compatible media, a verified channel that is eligible to stream, the event’s server URL and stream key, a reliable computer or hosted server, and monitoring that can detect and recover from failures. This guide assumes your stories are already recorded as video files and uses a Bash-style command; it does not assume a particular operating system, FFmpeg build, codec, or narration workflow.

Before you stream: clear the stories and prepare the files

Confirm you have rights to every part of each story

Before broadcasting, check the rights for the story text, any Gujarati translation, narration, illustrations, animation, music, and sound effects. YouTube’s Livestream terms and conditions put responsibility on the content provider to have the necessary rights to exploit live content worldwide, including music licensing rights, and to meet applicable territorial requirements. A traditional or familiar folk tale is not automatically free of rights: a modern translation, recording, arrangement, or illustration may have its own rights.

Make the playlist technically consistent

FFmpeg’s concat demuxer can sequence files listed in a text file, but it is not a converter or a playlist manager that fixes mismatched media. The FFmpeg Formats documentation says the files should have the same streams, codecs, and time bases. The demuxer adjusts timestamps between files; unequal stream lengths or inaccurate duration information can cause gaps, incorrect durations, or transition artifacts. If your files differ, normalize or re-export them before relying on a copy-only stream.

A playlist controls the order of files; it does not by itself make them repeat forever. The loop option in the command below handles repetition. Inspect the end of one story and the beginning of the next, including audio, before leaving the stream unattended.

Set up the YouTube Live event and protect its stream key

  1. Check eligibility. YouTube’s “Get started with live streaming” guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time live-streaming enablement can take up to 24 hours, so do not wait until broadcast time to activate it.
  2. Create or schedule an encoder stream. In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and create or schedule a live stream using an encoder. Set the title, visibility, and audience status for the intended broadcast.
  3. Copy the event’s connection details. YouTube’s encoder setup provides the server URL and stream key. Use the values for this specific stream; do not substitute an endpoint copied from an old tutorial. YouTube’s developer guidance specifies RTMPS, the secure RTMP-over-SSL option, with a valid YouTube ingestion endpoint and port 443. Use the exact endpoint YouTube supplies.
  4. Treat the key as a password. Keep the stream key out of public scripts, screenshots, repositories, and shared logs. If it is exposed, reset or replace it in YouTube Studio before continuing. Arrange your local environment so the complete destination URL used by FFmpeg is not committed to a file or printed publicly.
  5. Set the audience accurately. A stream of stories specifically aimed at children is likely to require a made-for-kids assessment. Set the audience status honestly in Live Control Room rather than choosing a different status to retain features or revenue. YouTube says made-for-kids content does not have comments, live chat, or personalized ads; its live-specific guidance says contextual ads may appear.

Build a looping playlist with FFmpeg

1. Create a concat list

In a working folder, create stories.ffconcat with one media file per line, in the order you want the stories to play. For example, when all three files are in the same folder and have simple filenames:

ffconcat version 1.0
file 'story-01.mp4'
file 'story-02.mp4'
file 'story-03.mp4'

Use filenames that actually exist and quote paths correctly if they contain special characters. Keep the list and files together for this simple example. FFmpeg’s safe-path rules may reject some path forms; do not disable those checks casually. Confirm that the list parses and that the transitions play correctly before starting the live event.

2. Confirm what your installed FFmpeg can handle

This example assumes a Bash-style shell, an FFmpeg build with the concat demuxer and the required input/output support, and source files whose video and audio codecs and stream layouts can be copied into the FLV output container accepted by the supplied YouTube RTMPS destination. It maps the first video stream and, if present, the first audio stream; it does not convert codecs, resize video, normalize loudness, or repair damaged timestamps. Check your installed build and files rather than assuming every FFmpeg package supports the same codecs.

3. Run the loop

Set YOUTUBE_RTMPS_URL in your shell environment to the complete destination assembled from the current server URL and stream key shown in Live Control Room, using the format YouTube specifies for that event. Do this without putting the secret in a public script, shared history, or repository. Then run:

ffmpeg -stream_loop -1 -re -f concat -i stories.ffconcat
  -map 0:v:0 -map 0:a:0? -c copy -f flv "$YOUTUBE_RTMPS_URL"

-stream_loop -1 repeats the input indefinitely, -re reads it at its native media rate rather than as fast as the machine can process it, and -c copy avoids re-encoding. The command only starts the encoder: it does not create the event, keep the computer awake, supervise FFmpeg, restart it after a crash, or ensure an internet connection stays up. Watch Live Control Room for the incoming signal and confirm the event is actually live.

Resolution, bitrate, and keyframes

With -c copy, FFmpeg sends the source streams as they are; it does not set a new resolution, bitrate, or keyframe interval. This is appropriate only if the existing files and their codecs are accepted by the output path and YouTube. If the files need transcoding or normalization, choose values using YouTube’s current encoder guidance and your actual source format, then verify the resulting signal in Live Control Room. No universal bitrate, resolution, or keyframe value can be specified for this topic without knowing the source files, target quality, FFmpeg build, and YouTube’s applicable current settings.

Keep the broadcast running and recover from failures

A 24/7 setup needs more than a looping command. The machine must remain powered and awake, FFmpeg must continue running, the media and storage must remain available, and the network must sustain the outgoing stream. A local computer gives you control and may use hardware you already own, but sleep, reboots, home-network outages, or power loss can interrupt it. A hosted server can run remotely, but still requires capacity, network access, process supervision, monitoring, and maintenance. The sources cited here do not establish a particular VPS provider, price, region, or tested restart configuration.

  • Run a short test before a scheduled broadcast. Confirm video and audio, transitions, the event’s visibility, and the incoming signal in Live Control Room.
  • Keep a way to notice when FFmpeg exits, stalls, or loses its input. A process that was started once is not a monitoring or restart plan.
  • Plan how to restart the encoder and reconnect it to the correct live event after a machine or network failure. Do not assume YouTube will restore a failed source on its own.
  • Keep sufficient local or server storage for the playlist and any separate recording workflow. Check free space and file availability before leaving the stream unattended.
  • Do not publish logs or diagnostic output without checking for credentials. Stream keys and destination URLs can expose access to the broadcast.

Decide whether to run one long session or shorter broadcasts

A continuous live endpoint and a saved replay are separate goals. YouTube Help’s “Archive live streams” guidance says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all; YouTube recommends keeping a local archive backup. A 24/7 event is therefore not a dependable way to produce one complete 24-hour replay.

Anker USB C Hub, 5-in-1 USBC to HDMI Splitter with 4K Display
  • 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
  • Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
  • Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
  • HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
  • What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.

If replay matters, record locally with a separate workflow and check that it is actually saving usable files, or plan shorter live sessions with archive needs in mind. Shorter sessions involve stopping and starting broadcasts, so they trade uninterrupted live presence for more predictable archive handling. Do not rely on the YouTube archive as the only copy of an important recording.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you want a managed alternative to maintaining an FFmpeg process on your own computer or server, StreamNeo runs uploaded videos as a 24/7 YouTube stream from the cloud. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed, and streams to YouTube only. No computer or home connection has to stay on; every slot streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, without re-encoding or quality tiers, and StreamNeo can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. UPI and cards are available in India; card checkout is available worldwide.
