Storm appears in the first trailer for What If…? Season 3 wielding Mjolnir as the Goddess of Thunder. The footage also teases a Wild West team-up, a giant Avengers mech and an unlikely space adventure—without confirming how those storylines fit together.
What happens in the What If…? Season 3 trailer?
The trailer previews alternate-universe combinations and striking set pieces rather than laying out a full episode-by-episode story. In Gordon Jackson’s November 11, 2024, Gizmodo/io9 report, the standout glimpses include:
- Shang-Chi and Kate Bishop together in a Wild West adventure.
- Avengers building or operating a giant mech.
- Darcy Lewis and Howard the Duck paired for an interstellar outing.
- Storm wielding Mjolnir as the Goddess of Thunder.
Jackson also reads the cel-shaded footage as showing figures including Nebula, Moon Knight, Dormammu, Yondu, Kahori, the Eternals, Ying Nan, White Vision and Korg. Those are the reporter’s identifications of brief trailer glimpses, not a definitive official cast list; the character designs can be difficult to distinguish.
Storm, Mjolnir and the possible Watcher conflict
The report identifies Alison Sealy-Smith as Storm’s voice actor, also known for voicing the character in the animated series and X-Men ’97. The trailer description establishes the striking image of Storm wielding Mjolnir, but it does not provide a complete synopsis explaining how she comes to hold the hammer or what happens in her story.

Jackson interprets some of the footage as suggesting Storm could be involved in a conflict with the Watchers. That is a possible reading of the trailer, not a confirmed plot point or synopsis. The report also speculates about the identity of a large tentacled creature; its identity is not established, so the creature should not be treated as identified fact.
What Marvel’s season description says
As quoted in Jackson’s account of a Marvel press release, the season follows “classic characters making unexpected choices that will mutate their worlds into spectacular alternate versions of the MCU.” The report names Captain America/Sam Wilson, Winter Soldier/Bucky Barnes, Hulk/Bruce Banner, the Red Guardian, Captain Peggy Carter, Agatha Harkness, Shang-Chi and Storm the Goddess of Thunder among the characters involved.
When was Season 3 expected to arrive?
Jackson’s November 11, 2024, article gave December 22, 2024, as the upcoming Disney+ release date. That was the announced date at the time of publication; it does not establish what is currently available in any particular country’s Disney+ catalog.
