Light Lens Lab’s proposed return to peel-apart instant film has not yet become a confirmed consumer product. In its latest reviewed update, dated June 15, 2026, the company said production testing was continuing and described delays tied to stability, automation and quality control. Its earlier target dates for black-and-white peel-apart film and K-14 color-reversal film were development goals, not proof of a launch or current retail availability.
What Light Lens Lab announced—and what has changed
Light Lens Lab’s May 31, 2025 update said it was developing black-and-white peel-apart instant film, with plans to offer it in various formats by 2025. The same update described research into dye-incorporating color-reversal film, commonly known as K-14, in 135 and 120 formats, with a 2026 target. These were company timelines for work in development, not confirmed delivery dates or evidence that film reached shops. Light Lens Lab’s May 2025 update
In September 2025, the company reported that it had synthesized dyes for black-and-white peel-apart film and was researching blue, red/yellow and green dyes for color peel-apart film. Packaging, finishing and component verification remained unresolved—steps that illustrate why a chemistry milestone is not the same as a finished, packaged film product. Light Lens Lab’s September 2025 peel-apart update
The June 15, 2026 update said peel-apart production testing was still continuing. In a related report on its broader black-and-white film production line, Light Lens Lab cited stability, automation and quality-control issues during initial testing and said it was delaying release until production became more consistent and repeatable. The reviewed updates do not confirm that peel-apart film or K-14 is currently for sale, or state a price. Light Lens Lab’s June 2026 production update

How peel-apart film works
Pack film makes a negative and a positive print through a peel-apart process. After exposure, the photographer pulls a paper tab to draw both layers through rollers. The rollers spread processing gel between them; after a development interval, the photographer separates the negative from the print. That hands-on separation is central to the format and differs from modern one-piece instant film, which does not use the same peel-apart negative step. Hackaday’s pack-film explainer
Using a Polaroid Land 104: pack film or a 120 conversion
The Polaroid Land 104 was designed for pack film. A related Hackaday project documents a 3D-printed adapter and replacement back that let the author use 120 roll film in the camera. That is a conversion, not ordinary compatibility: 120 roll film does not replace pack film in an unmodified Land 104. Hackaday’s Land 104 conversion article

| Route | Camera setup | Workflow | Availability established by the cited sources |
|---|---|---|---|
| Original pack-film operation | Land 104 in its intended configuration; requires a suitable pack | Expose the pack film, pull it through the rollers, wait for development, then peel the negative from the print | Light Lens Lab reported testing its proposed film in June 2026, not a confirmed retail launch. Hackaday mentioned limited handmade One Instant packs from Supersense in May 2025; that historical mention does not establish current stock. |
| Converted 120 roll-film operation | Requires a conversion back and adapter; not a stock-camera loading option | Uses 120 roll film rather than the original peel-apart pack workflow | Hackaday documented the conversion project; the cited sources do not establish current availability or price for conversion parts. |
The two routes are not interchangeable. Anyone seeking the original peel-apart experience needs a suitable pack film and a camera-compatible format; the conversion is a separate way to adapt the camera to roll film. Check the current status and compatibility of any film or conversion component before buying.

What to check before choosing a route
- For an unmodified Land 104: confirm that the pack film is suitable for the camera and is actually available. A development announcement alone does not establish either compatibility or stock.
- For 120 roll film: confirm that you have the required conversion back and adapter; a roll of 120 film cannot simply be loaded into the stock Land 104.
- For modern one-piece instant film: verify camera compatibility separately. Its workflow is not the same as peel-apart pack film.
- For Light Lens Lab’s proposed film: look for a later official release notice that names the format, supported cameras and retail availability. The updates reviewed here stop at production testing and do not confirm a consumer launch.
