Actor Ike Barinholtz and his father, Alan, won the $1 million charity prize on the August 14, 2024 episode of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. The money was designated for an American Sign Language program at Los Encinos School in Encino, where Ike’s nephew attends.
How Ike and Alan Barinholtz won
TVLine reported that the father and son answered all 15 questions correctly to claim the prize. It was the first million-dollar win of that season, according to ABC7 Los Angeles.
TVLine also called it the first joint victory in the show’s history. That distinction refers to a win by a pair playing together, rather than a claim that no contestant had previously won the million-dollar prize.
Where the million-dollar prize is going
The prize was designated to fund an American Sign Language program at Los Encinos School in Encino. Ike Barinholtz hoped the program could offer a framework for similar programs at other schools, TVLine reported.

Why the episode featured a father-and-son team
ABC presented the season as the show’s 25th-anniversary primetime return, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. Celebrity contestants competed in pairs and played for charities of their choice. ABC’s official clip is titled “Ike and Alan Barinholtz Reach The Million-Dollar Question on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire”; the clip listing confirms its subject, but does not establish whether the full episode is currently available to stream.
What Barinholtz said about the win
In a USA Today interview after the win, as quoted by TVLine, Barinholtz described the moment this way: “Had there been confetti in the hospital room, I would have given the birth of my children as the hard No. 1 significant event in my life,” followed by, “But with the confetti, this just felt bigger than anything I had ever been a part of.”
