What is Ragnarok about?
Netflix describes Ragnarok as a Norwegian fantasy thriller and coming-of-age drama set in the fictional town of Edda. How is it like the Thor movies—and how is it different?
The mythology is the clearest connection
The series brings recognizable Norse figures into a contemporary story: Magne is associated with Thor, and Laurits with Loki. Netflix’s explainer describes Ragnarök as meaning “doom of the gods” or “the twilight of the gods,” and connects the myth to Völuspá and the Prose Edda. Its summary traces a sequence of harsh winters, darkening skies, disasters and moral chaos toward a battle between gods and giants, followed by the world’s renewal. That is a concise overview, not a full scholarly account of the Norse sources.
The scale and genre are different
Ragnarok centers on a coming-of-age story in a modern Norwegian town, with environmental crisis and local corruption woven into its mythic premise. It is best approached as a mythology-based series rather than as a superhero adventure in episodic form.

Where is Ragnarok set and where was it filmed?
