Who are the 2026 IDA Documentary Awards honorees?
IDA announced four honoree groupings on October 8, 2026. The awards recognize distinct contributions to documentary filmmaking and nonfiction work: a career in documentary cinema, journalism that challenges power, emerging filmmaking, and service to the documentary community.

| Amicus Award | Cannes Docs | Connecting documentary filmmakers with festivals, distributors, programmers, and other industry participants |
What does each award recognize?
Career Achievement Award: Patricio Guzmán
IDA says it selected Guzmán before his death in September 2026. His longtime producer and friend Alexandra Galvis will accept the award on his behalf. IDA describes his work as an exploration of Chilean history and memory across a career spanning more than fifty years.
Among the films cited by IDA are The Battle of Chile (1972–1979), a five-hour trilogy, as well as Nostalgia for the Light, The Pearl Button, The Cordillera of Dreams, and My Imaginary Country. IDA Board member Paula Ossandón said, “Patricio was able to express his joy at receiving this recognition.”
