Yoshihiro Togashi’s October 5, 2026 update was about how he will handle future deadline-based work—not an announcement of a new Hunter x Hunter chapter date. He said he would finish commitments already accepted, then turn down future requests with deadlines so he can prioritize his own manuscripts. He also said he would announce when he resumes manuscript work. The next manga publication date remained undecided in ORICON’s September report.
What Togashi announced
In a translation of his official X post, Togashi cited physical and mental health issues and said: “Due to a combination of physical and mental health issues, I’ve decided that after completing the work I’m currently committed to, I will turn down all future requests that come with deadlines and prioritize working on my own manuscripts. Once I’m able to resume work on them, I’ll announce it on Twitter.” ComicBook.com reproduced the post and its Japanese text on October 5, 2026.
The distinction matters: Togashi described a future change in his outside commitments and a priority for his own manuscripts. He did not say that he had resumed work on Hunter x Hunter, announce a serialization restart, or give a publication date.
When is the next Hunter x Hunter chapter due?
No next-chapter date was established in ORICON’s September 6, 2026 report. Chapter 420 appeared in the Weekly Shonen Jump issue released September 7, and a notice on the issue’s final page said: “The next publication date will be announced in this magazine once it has been decided.” ORICON reported the notice and chapter status.

That report also said the manga returned in June 2026 after roughly a year and a half, beginning with Chapter 411, and published ten chapters through Chapter 420. It noted that Togashi had posted “No. 427, manuscript complete” on September 1. A completed manuscript is not the same thing as a chapter being published: the post did not establish publication dates for Chapters 421–427.
Why a weekly return should not be assumed
Hunter x Hunter is not confirmed to be returning to a weekly schedule. ORICON quoted a December 2022 statement from Shueisha’s editorial team: “Regarding the publication of HUNTER x HUNTER from Chapter 401 onward, we have discussed the matter with Mr. Togashi, taking his health and other circumstances into account. As a result, we have decided to bring the series to readers in a format other than weekly serialization.” The later notice left the next publication date undecided; it did not announce a replacement schedule.
What upcoming Hunter x Hunter releases are confirmed?
The manga and stage production have different formats and statuses. Shueisha announced Hunter x Hunter THE STAGE 4, with part one planned for January 2027 and part two for July 2027 in Tokyo and Kyoto. Those are plans for a stage adaptation, not dates for manga chapters or a new anime. Shueisha’s September 8, 2026 announcement covers THE STAGE 4.
