The connected features—including calls, messaging, AI responses and access to stored content—no longer work. HP separately announced a deal to acquire selected Humane technology and talent; that did not continue the consumer Ai Pin service.
Why did Humane discontinue the Ai Pin?
Humane announced that it was winding down its consumer Ai Pin business and ending sales immediately. The company’s consumer FAQ described the decision but did not establish a more detailed cause. Its announcement is available in the Humane Ai Pin Consumers FAQ.
The key distinction is between the consumer product and the technology Humane developed. The Ai Pin depended on Humane’s servers for many of its advertised functions, so ending that service made the device’s connected features unavailable.
What happened to the Ai Pin service?
Humane said the Ai Pin stopped connecting to its servers at 12 p.m. Pacific on February 28, 2025. The company said calls, messaging, AI queries and responses, and cloud access would no longer work. Its customer shutdown announcement set out the wind-down.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Humane said a small number of offline functions, such as checking battery level, might remain. It specifically said the Ai Pin would not function as a cellular device after service termination. That limited offline behavior is not a continuation of the connected product.
What should Ai Pin owners know now?
Stored content and personal data
Humane urged owners before shutdown to sync the device over Wi-Fi and download photos, videos, and notes from .Center. It said remaining customer data, including personally identifiable information, would be permanently deleted from its servers at noon Pacific on February 28, 2025; after the deadline, the data would no longer be accessible. Those instructions and deadlines have passed.

Refunds, subscriptions, and support
Humane’s 2025 refund policy covered only customers still within the 90-day return window whose devices shipped on or after November 15, 2024. The deadline to request a refund was February 27, 2025, so this was a time-limited policy, not a current remedy. Humane also said subscriptions would be canceled, qualifying prepaid amounts refunded, and third-party integrations disconnected. It said it would not offer a trade-in or replacement program or post-shutdown customer support.
Disposal
Humane encouraged owners to recycle the device through an e-waste program. Its official information does not establish a current repair, replacement, or accessory option that restores the Ai Pin’s connected functions.

What did HP acquire from Humane?
On February 18, 2025, HP announced a definitive agreement to acquire selected Humane capabilities, including its Cosmos platform, technical talent, and intellectual property covering more than 300 patents and patent applications. HP stated a transaction value of $116 million and said it expected the deal to close at the end of February 2025. Those are the terms and expected timing in HP’s announcement, not independent verification of the final closing terms.
HP said Humane engineers would join its Technology and Innovation Organization and form HP IQ, an AI innovation lab focused on an intelligent ecosystem across HP products and services. The announcement describes a corporate technology acquisition; it does not say that HP continued Humane’s consumer Ai Pin service or offers the Ai Pin as a working consumer product. See HP’s February 18, 2025 announcement.
