As of October 8, 2025, Disney+ Canada replaced the Star tile with Hulu. The change gives Disney+ a Hulu-branded general-entertainment hub, but it does not mean Canada has received the separate U.S. Hulu service or a new standalone subscription. For most subscribers, this is primarily a rebrand of the existing Star section: Hulu-branded titles are included with Disney+ at no additional charge, while the available catalogue depends on Canadian licensing.
What changed on Disney+ Canada?
On October 8, 2025, the Star section of Disney+ Canada became Hulu. Disney is using Hulu as its international general-entertainment brand, alongside the Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic areas already familiar to subscribers.
The practical change is therefore mostly one of branding and navigation. If you already used Star for more mature dramas, comedies, documentaries, films and other general-entertainment programming, those titles have moved under the Hulu name. Open Disney+ and look for the Hulu tile, or search directly for a programme.
Is Hulu a separate streaming service in Canada?
No—not in the sense that Canadian Disney+ viewers need another monthly subscription. Disney says Hulu content is included with a Disney+ subscription in Canada at no added cost. You do not need to sign up for a separately billed Canadian Hulu app to access the Hulu section on Disney+.

This also means there is no special “Hulu plan” within Disney+ Canada. The normal Disney+ plan choice determines matters such as advertising, video quality, simultaneous streams and downloads; Hulu branding does not create a separate Canadian tier.
Does Canada now have the full U.S. Hulu catalogue?
No. The Canadian Hulu hub should not be treated as a copy of the U.S. Hulu service. Streaming rights vary by country and can change over time. A programme available on Hulu in the United States may be unavailable in Canada, while Canadian viewers may see titles licensed through a different service or included in a different regional catalogue.
The safest way to check a particular documentary, series or film is to search for it in the Canadian Disney+ app or website while signed in. Avoid assuming that a U.S. Hulu listing, search result or social-media recommendation also applies to Canada.
Disney’s international Hulu branding is broader than the question of whether every U.S. Hulu title has arrived in a particular country. It signals how Disney is organizing general-entertainment content internationally—not a guarantee of identical catalogues or identical release dates.

- Your existing Disney+ subscription is the relevant subscription. Hulu-branded programming is included in the Canadian Disney+ service, subject to the title being licensed in Canada.
- The Star tile may no longer appear. Look for Hulu instead, or use Disney+ search.
- Your profile controls still matter. A title may be hidden because of the profile’s maturity setting or Junior Mode.
- You should not expect a separate Hulu login or Canadian Hulu app. The change does not turn Disney+ Canada into the standalone U.S. Hulu product.
Disney+ Canada plans and prices
Hulu programming is included across the relevant Disney+ Canada plans; the choice is about the normal Disney+ features rather than access to a special Hulu catalogue. Disney’s currently listed direct plans are:
| Plan | Listed price | Key listed features |
|---|---|---|
| Standard With Ads | CA$8.99/month | Up to 1080p; two concurrent streams; no downloads |
| Standard | CA$15.99/month CA$159.99/year |
Up to 1080p; two concurrent streams; downloads on up to 10 devices |
| Premium | CA$16.99/month CA$169.99/year |
Up to 4K UHD/HDR; four concurrent streams; downloads on up to 10 devices; Dolby Atmos where available |
These prices and inclusions are subject to change, so check Disney+ Canada’s sign-up or account page before subscribing or changing plans. Device compatibility and internet performance affect the quality you actually receive. Even plans described as ad-free may include programme promotions or limited advertising around certain live programming.
For most viewers, the decision is straightforward:
- Choose Standard With Ads if the lowest monthly price matters most and you do not need offline downloads.
- Choose Standard if you want downloads and an ad-free plan but do not need 4K or four simultaneous streams.
- Choose Premium if your television and sound system support 4K, HDR or Dolby Atmos, or if your household needs four concurrent streams and downloads on more devices.
Upgrading to Premium will not unlock every U.S. Hulu title. It changes the Disney+ plan features, not Canadian licensing rights.
Why can’t I find a show or film in the Hulu section?

1. Search for the title directly
The Hulu landing page is a curated hub, not necessarily a complete index of every eligible programme. Use Disney+ search and check the spelling, alternate title and season information.
2. Check the profile’s content rating
Disney+ profile settings can prevent higher-rated films and series from appearing in browsing or search. Open the profile settings and review the content rating for the profile you are using. A child-focused profile or Junior Mode can also exclude mature Hulu programming.
If the title appears when you use an unrestricted adult profile, the issue was the profile setting rather than your subscription.
3. Check that you are using the Canadian service
Availability follows the country or region where the content is licensed. A title listed on a U.S. Hulu page—or visible to someone watching from another country—may not be available in Canada.
4. Check availability again later
Rights and release schedules change. If your profile is unrestricted and the title still does not appear in Canadian Disney+ search, the most likely explanation is that it is not currently licensed for that service or region. Do not assume that changing to Premium will resolve it.
What if my television does not show the Hulu tile?
First, update the Disney+ app, sign out and back in, and confirm that the device is supported. The Hulu tile may also appear differently depending on the device’s app version and operating system.
If your television lacks a supported Disney+ app, a TV-connected streaming device may be an option. Disney lists Fire TV devices, including Fire TV Stick models running Fire OS 6.0 or later, among supported devices. An Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K can be considered for a compatible television and home network, but it is optional: it does not provide access to titles that Disney+ Canada does not license, and it does not turn the Canadian service into U.S. Hulu.
Check the current Disney+ device-support information and the device’s Canadian availability before buying. Actual 4K, HDR and audio performance also depends on the television, receiver, internet connection and the plan.

Why is Disney using Hulu internationally?
Disney has positioned Hulu as its international general-entertainment label, while Disney+ remains the central streaming service in markets such as Canada. The Star-to-Hulu change is part of that wider branding and product direction.

Disney has also discussed broader Disney+ and Hulu integration. Those plans should not be confused with the specific Canadian change that took effect on October 8, 2025. The confirmed consumer-facing result in Canada is the replacement of the Star hub with Hulu and the inclusion of Hulu-branded programming within Disney+—not the launch of a separately subscribed Canadian version of U.S. Hulu.
What Canadian viewers should remember
- Hulu replaced Star on Disney+ Canada on October 8, 2025.
- There is no separate Hulu fee required for the Hulu tile.
- The Canadian Hulu catalogue is not guaranteed to match the U.S. catalogue.
- Search Disney+ Canada for a specific title rather than relying on a U.S. listing.
- Check profile ratings and Junior Mode if content is missing.
- Disney+ plan features—not a special Hulu tier—determine ads, streams, resolution and downloads.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a Hulu subscription to watch Hulu on Disney+ Canada?
No. Hulu-branded programming is included with a Disney+ subscription in Canada at no additional charge. The Hulu tile is part of Disney+ rather than a separately billed Canadian Hulu service.
Did Star disappear from Disney+ Canada?
Yes. Disney+ Canada replaced the Star general-entertainment tile with Hulu on October 8, 2025. Much of the practical function is the same, although the branding and presentation have changed.
Does Disney+ Canada now have every show from U.S. Hulu?
No. Canadian availability depends on regional licensing and can change. Search for the specific title in the Canadian Disney+ app or website instead of assuming that a U.S. Hulu listing applies.
Why is a Hulu title missing from my Disney+ profile?
Review the profile’s content-rating setting and confirm that Junior Mode is not enabled. Higher-rated content can be hidden from browsing and search. If the profile is unrestricted and the title is still absent, it may not currently be licensed in Canada.
Which Disney+ Canada plan includes Hulu?
Hulu is not tied to a special plan. Hulu-branded titles are part of the Disney+ Canada service, subject to Canadian availability. Choose among Disney+ plans based on advertising, video quality, simultaneous streams and download features.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Hulu is now the name of Disney+ Canada’s general-entertainment hub, replacing Star on October 8, 2025. It is not the arrival of a separate, full U.S. Hulu subscription for Canada. Existing Disney+ subscribers can use the Hulu tile at no extra charge, but the catalogue remains region-specific and profile settings can affect what appears.
