Hugh Grosvenor, the Duke of Westminster, married Olivia Henson at Chester Cathedral on Friday, 7 June 2024. Prince William attended as an usher. The couple held a private reception at Eaton Estate.
When and where did the Duke of Westminster marry Olivia Henson?
The ceremony took place around midday at Chester Cathedral in Chester. The couple chose the cathedral in part because of the Grosvenor family’s longstanding connection to the city and the cathedral. Their reception was held privately at Eaton Estate, also known as Eaton Hall.
A spokesperson for the couple said: “This is an incredibly special day for the Duke and Miss Henson and they are very much looking forward to the service. It means a lot to them to marry in Chester Cathedral, especially given the Grosvenor family’s long and close personal connection to both the Cathedral and the city of Chester.”
Who attended, and who took part in the service?
About 400 guests attended the ceremony, according to Vogue, while hundreds of onlookers gathered outside the cathedral, the Associated Press reported. Prince William served as an usher, and Princess Eugenie was among the attendees.

What did Olivia Henson wear?
Vogue reported that Henson’s wedding dress was designed by London-based Emma Victoria Payne. Its floral motifs incorporated details from a veil worn by Henson’s great-grandmother, dating to 1880. She wore the Fabergé Myrtle Leaf Tiara, made for the Grosvenor family in 1906, and blue Silvia Lago Valentina 8 Riveria pumps. These are details of her wedding outfit, not confirmation that the items are available to buy.

Official wedding photographs were credited to Benjamin Wheeler. Henson travelled to the cathedral with her father in a vintage Bentley provided by Bentley Motors’ Heritage Collection in Crewe, according to a local event report.
How did the wedding involve local suppliers and organisations?
The floral arrangements used seasonal flowers from local growers through the Flowers from the Farm network, alongside foliage selected from the Eaton Estate. Reported flowers included rambling roses, philadelphus, campanula and orlaya grandiflora; birch trees were placed inside the cathedral.

After the service, the flowers were to be remade into bouquets for local charities, churches and organisations. The birch trees were to be relocated to Eaton Estate. The couple’s spokesperson said they had “made a conscious effort to involve local and regional suppliers in several aspects of the day.”
Why was it described as a “royal wedding”?
Some media coverage used the phrase “the most royal, non-royal wedding” to describe the event’s high-profile guests and public interest. It was a media shorthand, not an official classification: Grosvenor and Henson did not become a royal couple by marrying. Prince William’s presence as an usher does not change that distinction.
