SiriusXM announced on August 31, 2026, that Stern would continue with the company through 2028, carrying his exclusive live show and the classic Howard library. The company has not disclosed the current deal’s dollar value in that announcement, so the headline’s $500 million figure should not be treated as a confirmed price for this agreement.
What happened to Howard Stern’s SiriusXM deal?
Stern announced a three-year renewal in December 2025. SiriusXM later confirmed that he chose to continue through 2028 for his live show and archive. The company’s 2025 annual report also says it extended its agreement with Stern for another three years. The Associated Press reported that Stern wanted more free time while remaining on radio; he described the renewal as a way to “have it all.”
The wording “may be fired” and “deal expires” is therefore outdated as a description of the current situation. SiriusXM President and Chief Content Officer Scott Greenstein said the company was proud Stern chose to continue through 2028 for his exclusive live show and library. SiriusXM’s announcement also laid out a new season and a video collaboration with HBO Max.
What is known about the $500 million figure?
The current deal’s compensation and full legal terms have not been publicly disclosed in the cited announcement or the AP renewal report. The $500 million amount is not confirmed as the value of the current three-year agreement, so it should not be presented as an established current-contract figure.

Earlier SiriusXM announcements show why it is risky to treat a headline number as a simple price for one uniform package: live-show hosting and archive licensing have had different terms. In 2020, the company described five years of live programming and an additional seven years of archive licensing; in 2015, it described five years of live hosting alongside a 12-year archive license. Those past arrangements do not establish the detailed terms of the current deal.
Where and when can audiences hear or watch the show?
| Option | Format and schedule announced | What is not established |
|---|---|---|
| SiriusXM | Live episodes on Mondays; SiriusXM says subscribers can listen in cars, on phones, and on connected devices at home through its app. | The current announcement does not provide a territory-by-territory availability breakdown or a price. |
| HBO Max | An adapted, streamable video version was announced for Thursdays, beginning September 17, 2026. SiriusXM said 40 cameras would capture the conversation. | The announcement does not say this is an unedited simulcast of the full live broadcast or establish that every live segment appears in the adapted version. It does not give a territory-by-territory availability breakdown or a price. |
SiriusXM also announced a revised Howard 100 lineup and a “Howard Stern Decades” area in its app. The schedule and service availability can change, so check the platforms’ current listings for the latest details.

Does SiriusXM’s subscriber count measure Stern’s audience?
No. Sirius XM Holdings reported approximately 32.9 million subscribers in the United States as of December 31, 2025, in its 2025 Form 10-K. That is a company-wide service subscriber count, not a measurement of how many people listen to Stern.
