Carole Radziwill was related to the Kennedys by marriage, not by birth. She married Anthony Radziwill in 1994; Anthony was the son of Lee Radziwill, Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis’s sister, and a first cousin of John F. Kennedy Jr. Carole described Jackie as her “aunt-in-law” and John as her “cousin-in-law.”
The family connection, step by step
- Carole married Anthony Radziwill in 1994.
- Anthony’s mother, Lee Radziwill, was the sister of Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.
- Anthony and John F. Kennedy Jr. were first cousins.
- That made Carole John’s cousin-in-law through her marriage to Anthony, rather than a Kennedy relative by birth.

Who was Anthony Radziwill?
Anthony was Lee Radziwill’s son and John F. Kennedy Jr.’s first cousin. A contemporaneous Los Angeles Times obituary identifies those relationships and reports that John was best man at Anthony and Carole’s East Hampton wedding in August 1994. The Los Angeles Times obituary and Bravo’s explainer both describe Carole’s connection through her marriage.
More than a family-tree link
Anthony and John were also close friends, and Carole was close to John and Carolyn Bessette Kennedy. Anthony died of cancer in August 1999, three weeks after John, Carolyn and Carolyn’s sister Lauren died in a plane crash on July 16.
