A January 25, 1989, Los Angeles Times report said Bundy had boasted that his relationship with Boone produced a daughter “conceived during a prison visit.” That is the clearest reported account of the broad circumstances, but it describes Bundy’s claim; it is not an independently verified explanation of the mechanics. Why the exact circumstances remain unclear
Retrospective accounts note that death-row visits were monitored and physical contact was restricted, which is why the reported conception during a visit draws questions. A&E describes the circumstances as uncertain rather than resolving how the couple could have had sex during a visit. Read A&E’s account.

Esquire has also discussed journalist Stephen Michaud’s work and a documentary in which Boone describes how the relationship was consummated. The article does not, by itself, establish an independently verified account of the act or the prison’s procedures. Read Esquire’s account.
What can—and cannot—be concluded
- Reported: Bundy was on death row when Boone became pregnant, and contemporaneous coverage attributed the conception to a prison visit.
- Not established: The precise mechanics, the location within the prison, or any alleged arrangement involving guards.
- Best answer: They were reported to have conceived during a visit, but the exact circumstances are not confirmed by the available accounts.
Why some accounts give different birth years
The daughter’s birth year is not consistent across the cited coverage: A&E gives October 1982, while the Women’s Health account gives October 1981. Without a primary record to settle the discrepancy, neither year should be stated as definitive.
