Travis Kelce’s Eighty-Seven & Running Foundation awarded a $30,000 grant to Rebuilding Together Kansas City, which used it to repair Gloria White’s home and improve its safety. White had lived there for 56 years, and the work helped her continue living there.
What happened to Gloria White’s home?
White, then 79, contacted Rebuilding Together Kansas City after sewage leaked into her basement and the basement steps broke, according to KSHB 41 News. She also had limited mobility, making repairs and safer access especially important.
White’s relative had been married to former Kansas City Chiefs player Otis Taylor. KSHB reported that Eighty-Seven & Running stepped in after hearing about White and her love of the Chiefs. The foundation’s $30,000 grant supported the project; Rebuilding Together Kansas City carried out the repairs.
What repairs and safety modifications were made?
Rebuilding Together Kansas City’s December 12, 2023 release describes roof, bathroom and kitchen repairs, grab bars, railings and major plumbing work. KSHB reported additional specifics:

- Grab bars and fire-safety equipment.

- Repairs to the basement steps and handrail, and installation of a motion light.
- Repairs to the main sewer line and drains, including sewage cleanup and sanitizing.
White praised the kitchen work, telling Us Weekly, “I love the kitchen with the new sink. They came in and did it perfect.” The detailed repair list above is from KSHB; the kitchen comment was reported by Us Weekly on January 12, 2024.
What “save her home” means in this story
The phrase refers to helping White stay in her home, not preventing its demolition. Rebuilding Together Kansas City said that without assistance, she might not have been able to continue living there. White described the place as home for more than five decades: “I’ve been here 56 years. They know Miss Gloria. I am about people,” she told KSHB.

Who carried out the work, and what else does the nonprofit do?
Rebuilding Together Kansas City repairs homes and makes safety modifications for vulnerable residents. In its December 12, 2023 release, the organization said it had helped more than 125 senior citizens, low-income families, veterans and physically challenged residents in 2023—nearly 25% more than the previous year. It also said it had helped more than 1,100 people in those groups stay in their homes since its founding in 2001.
Executive director Scott Hickox described the organization’s purpose this way: “Rebuilding Together Kansas City exists to help some of our most vulnerable neighbors stay in their homes.” White expressed gratitude for the project, saying, “I thank God so much for the work they did here at my house.”
