A May 2023 biography from Briefly gives a more specific version, saying they met at a horse-riding event in 2014. That detail is not attributed to a first-hand account in the article, so it is best treated as an unconfirmed report rather than a settled fact. Briefly
The relationship timeline
Us Weekly reported in December 2019 that the couple began dating in early 2014. The same account says they became engaged in 2018 and married on November 30, 2019, at Sunstone Vineyards & Winery in California. These milestones provide context for their relationship, but they do not identify where or how they first met. Us Weekly

Why the exact story remains unclear
The available coverage does not include a first-person description from Welling or Lee of their initial meeting. The clearest supported account is therefore that reports place their meeting in 2014 and associate their connection with horses; the horse-riding-event detail appears in one secondary biography without first-hand attribution.
