BBC iPlayer is the UK’s free-to-use streaming route for Wimbledon coverage, with no separate Wimbledon sports subscription. You must be in the UK and comply with TV-licensing rules. The 2026 Championships ran from June 29 to July 12 and have now finished, so check BBC iPlayer for any remaining replays, highlights and programme pages rather than expecting live coverage.
Is Wimbledon free on BBC iPlayer?
Yes. BBC iPlayer is the BBC’s streaming route for Wimbledon in the UK, and it does not require a separate Wimbledon sports subscription. The BBC’s reported broadcast arrangement with the All England Lawn Tennis Club extends through 2027, although the precise coverage plan for each future Championship can change.
There are two important conditions:
- You must be in the UK to use BBC iPlayer.
- You must comply with UK TV-licensing rules. A TV Licence is required to watch BBC programmes on iPlayer and to watch or record live television.
So “free” means that eligible UK viewers do not pay an extra streaming subscription for the BBC coverage. It does not mean that iPlayer is available worldwide or that a TV Licence is unnecessary.
How to watch Wimbledon on BBC iPlayer
- Open BBC iPlayer on your computer, phone, tablet or connected television.
- Search for Wimbledon, or open the Wimbledon listing presented by BBC iPlayer.
- Choose the available live channel, court stream, highlights programme or replay.
- Sign in to your BBC account if requested, then follow the on-screen location and TV-licensing prompts.
During the Championships, BBC iPlayer normally provides access to the BBC’s Wimbledon television coverage as well as online programme and court-stream listings. The BBC’s detailed Wimbledon viewing guide for the 2025 Championships said that BBC One and BBC Two coverage was available through iPlayer and that every match from all 18 courts was streamed live through BBC iPlayer and BBC Sport for that edition. That is useful evidence of the service pattern, but it should not be treated as a guarantee of the exact number of streams or programmes for 2027.

Watch Wimbledon on a laptop, phone or tablet
The simplest option is the BBC iPlayer website or the BBC Sport Wimbledon coverage page. A computer is especially useful if you want to move between a live television channel, a court stream, the schedule and on-demand programmes.
On a phone or tablet, use the BBC iPlayer app where it is supported, or open the BBC’s mobile website. Once Wimbledon is selected, choose the listing that matches what you want to watch:
- Live coverage: choose the live BBC channel or live court feed currently listed.
- A particular match: search the players’ names as well as “Wimbledon”; a full-match replay may be listed separately from the live coverage.
- Highlights: look for the BBC’s Wimbledon highlights or daily programme.
- Earlier coverage: open the programme page and check whether a replay is still offered.
Schedules are shown in UK time and can change when matches run long, weather interrupts play or the order of play is revised. For the 2026 event, do not assume that a match remains available simply because it was streamed live: the exact BBC iPlayer retention period and remaining archive inventory were not established.
How to watch Wimbledon on your TV
You can use BBC iPlayer through a compatible smart TV, connected-TV platform, games console or streaming stick. Open the device’s app store, install or launch BBC iPlayer, and search for Wimbledon in the app.

If your television does not have a suitable app, an external streaming device can provide the platform needed to run one. For example, the Amazon Fire TV Stick HD is an optional UK streaming-device route: Amazon’s documentation identifies BBC iPlayer as a Fire TV application target, and the device is documented as a 2026 model sold through Amazon’s UK store. It can be useful for an older television with an HDMI input.
A Fire TV Stick does not make BBC iPlayer available outside the UK, provide a TV Licence or bypass BBC location and licensing requirements. It also does not guarantee that every app version is supported on every television or Fire TV model. Check the current BBC iPlayer listing and your television’s compatibility before buying any hardware.
Other no-purchase options include:
- the built-in BBC iPlayer app on a compatible smart TV;
- a games console that supports BBC iPlayer;
- a laptop connected to the television with an HDMI cable; or
- casting from a supported phone or tablet, where the BBC app and television support it.
Can I watch BBC iPlayer outside the UK?
No. BBC Help states that BBC iPlayer is available only in the UK. Someone in the United States, Canada, Australia or another country should not expect the iPlayer stream to work there.
UK residents travelling abroad may also find that access is affected by their location and by programme rights. A BBC.com subscription is not a substitute for iPlayer: BBC Help distinguishes the international BBC.com service from BBC iPlayer and says that iPlayer is not included in the BBC.com subscription.

Do I need a TV Licence to watch Wimbledon on iPlayer?
Yes, you need to comply with the applicable UK TV-licensing rules. The requirement applies even though BBC iPlayer itself does not charge a separate Wimbledon subscription. TV Licensing guidance says a licence is needed to watch BBC programmes on iPlayer and to watch or record live television.
The device you use makes no difference to that obligation: it applies whether you watch on a phone, laptop, smart TV, games console or Fire TV Stick.
When is Wimbledon on BBC iPlayer?
The 2026 Championships took place from June 29 to July 12, 2026. They are no longer live as of August 13, 2026, so the appropriate place to look now is the Wimbledon section of BBC iPlayer for any remaining catch-up programmes, highlights or replays.

For a future tournament, check the current BBC Sport schedule rather than relying on an old timetable. Coverage times are listed in UK time and may change. The reported BBC–All England Club arrangement supports continuing BBC Wimbledon coverage through 2027, but it does not by itself confirm the 2027 daily schedule, programme line-up or number of court streams.

What if a Wimbledon stream is missing?
- The event is over: after the tournament, live feeds are removed and individual replays may expire at different times.
- You are outside the UK: iPlayer’s UK-only restriction can prevent playback.
- You cannot find the match: search by player names, competition round or programme title, and check BBC Sport as well as iPlayer.
- The schedule has changed: rain, long matches and court changes can move coverage from one listing or channel to another.
- The TV app is unavailable: update the television or streaming device, check its app store and try iPlayer in a browser on a laptop instead.
- Playback fails on a television: test iPlayer on another supported device. This helps distinguish an app or device problem from an account, location or licensing prompt.
Do not interpret the absence of a replay as proof that the match was never streamed. BBC catch-up availability can be different from the original live schedule, and the exact 2026 archive window has not been confirmed here.
Quick answer
For a UK viewer covered by the TV-licensing rules, open BBC iPlayer, search for Wimbledon and select the available live coverage, highlights or replay. You do not need a separate Wimbledon subscription. The 2026 live Championships have ended, however, so current listings may contain only selected catch-up programmes rather than every match.

Can I watch BBC iPlayer Wimbledon on my TV?
You can use a compatible smart TV, connected-TV platform, games console or streaming stick. An Amazon Fire TV Stick HD is one optional way to add a streaming platform to a television, but it does not remove BBC location or licensing requirements.
Is Wimbledon still live on BBC iPlayer?
The 2026 Championships ran from June 29 to July 12, 2026, and the live event has ended. BBC iPlayer may still offer selected replays or highlights, but the availability of every full match is not guaranteed.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: BBC iPlayer is the UK’s free-to-use online route for BBC Wimbledon coverage, but it is UK-only and subject to TV-licensing rules. The 2026 tournament ended on July 12, so check iPlayer now for whatever replays and highlights remain rather than expecting live court streams.
