The Times Square Alliance says the livestream can be watched on a computer, tablet, or smartphone without a cable login or paid streaming subscription. It is expected to begin around 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time, with the 60-second Ball Drop beginning at 11:59 p.m. ET and ending at midnight as January 1, 2027 begins.
Because the final 2026–2027 event page and stream URL had not yet been published in the available official material as of August 12, 2026, confirm the link and schedule on the official Times Square NYC website closer to New Year’s Eve.

The official page may use a new event page or embedded player for the 2026–2027 celebration. Do not rely on an old 2025–2026 video URL. Instead, verify that the page is published by Times Square NYC or the Times Square Alliance before pressing play.

Accessible free livestream: captions and ASL interpretation
The official Times Square webcast has also identified an accessible YouTube livestream with open captions and American Sign Language interpretation. This is the best option for viewers who need or prefer captions or ASL.
The exact YouTube event page for December 31, 2026 may not appear until closer to the celebration. Check the official Times Square NYC website and its official YouTube presence rather than using a third-party upload or an old event page. A dedicated live event page for a previous Ball Drop confirms that Times Square NYC uses YouTube for event programming, but it does not establish the URL or schedule for the upcoming celebration.
How to watch on a phone, tablet, or computer
- Open the official Times Square NYC website before midnight.
- Find the current New Year’s Eve live webcast page.
- Start the stream before 11:59 p.m. ET so you are not searching for a link during the final countdown.
- Turn up your device volume and, if desired, enable full-screen viewing.
- Keep the official page open through the final countdown and the midnight celebration.
A wired or strong Wi-Fi connection is preferable. If the video pauses, lower the player quality, close bandwidth-heavy tabs or apps, and reload the official page. Avoid repeatedly opening unfamiliar “free stream” pages that may be misleading, overloaded, or unauthorized.
Want to watch the Ball Drop on your TV?
A phone or computer is enough for the free webcast, but viewers with an older or non-smart television may want to display the official YouTube accessibility stream on a TV. The Amazon Fire TV Stick HD is an optional streaming device that supports TV-based streaming and YouTube playback through the Fire TV ecosystem.

You will still need internet access, and compatibility with the final 2026–2027 Times Square webpage or player should be confirmed at publication time. A television’s built-in browser, casting from a phone, or an HDMI connection may work just as well depending on your equipment.

Can you watch the Ball Drop free on ABC?
ABC’s Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve is another major way to see the Times Square celebration, but its availability is separate from the official Times Square webcast.
For the 2025–2026 celebration, ABC announced a live broadcast beginning at 8:00 p.m. ET. That program was also made available the following day on Hulu, and the announcement described distribution through the iHeartRadio app and iHeartRadio stations. Those details document the previous celebration; they do not confirm the ABC schedule or a free streaming route for December 31, 2026.
For 2026–2027, check ABC’s official announcement for the current broadcast, app, authentication, and on-demand rules. Do not assume that an ABC stream will be free simply because the Times Square webcast is free.
What about CNN’s New Year’s Eve Live?
CNN may provide another televised New Year’s Eve presentation, but it is not the safest recommendation for someone specifically looking for a free livestream. CNN’s official material for the 2025–2026 celebration described streaming through its subscription platform and associated CNN apps.

Access requirements can change. Depending on the current distribution agreement, CNN viewing may require a subscription, a participating TV-provider login, or another form of paid access. Check CNN’s 2026–2027 announcement if you are considering it, but use the official Times Square webcast as the primary no-purchase option.
How to avoid the wrong livestream
Search results may show recordings, unofficial rebroadcasts, commentary channels, or pages using “free Ball Drop stream” in their titles. To verify the correct source:
- Start at the official Times Square NYC website.
- Look for a current event page for December 31, 2026, not a page labeled 2025–2026.
- For YouTube, confirm that the event is published by the official Times Square NYC account.
- Do not enter payment details or install unfamiliar software just to view the Ball Drop.
- Be cautious of pages promising a schedule or host lineup before Times Square NYC has announced it.
This does not mean every third-party page is unlawful or unsafe. It means the official Times Square NYC site and its official YouTube presence are the most reliable verification standards for the free webcast.
