Super Bowl LVIII was played on Sunday, February 11, 2024, so this is now a historical viewing guide rather than a live-event recommendation. The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, with kickoff scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Eastern, 5:30 p.m. Central, 4:30 p.m. Mountain, and 3:30 p.m. Pacific.
The game was broadcast nationally on CBS. In the United States, viewers without cable could watch through an antenna, Paramount+, or a live-TV streaming service carrying their local CBS affiliate. A separate family-oriented broadcast aired on Nickelodeon.
The simplest cable-free option was Paramount+
Paramount+ streamed the CBS presentation of Super Bowl LVIII. At the time, the service advertised a seven-day trial for new subscribers. The listed prices after the trial were $5.99 per month for Paramount+ Essential and $11.99 per month for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME. Trial eligibility and prices could change.
To find the game in the Paramount+ app or on the website, the viewing path was:

- Sign in to Paramount+.
- Open Live TV.
- Select the NFL on CBS channel.
The important detail was the channel selection. Paramount+ Essential generally did not include the viewer’s ordinary local CBS station feed before and after the game. Instead, CBS provided the NFL game through a separate NFL-on-CBS live feed. The game was available only where Paramount+ carried the broadcast for the subscriber’s local CBS market.
Paramount+ problems to avoid
- Do not assume the regular local CBS channel is included. Look for the NFL on CBS feed rather than the normal station stream.
- Check local-market availability. Paramount+’s NFL-on-CBS access depended on the local CBS market associated with the account.
- Cancel a trial manually if necessary. The seven-day trial converted to a paid subscription unless canceled under the applicable terms.
- Test the device first. Supported devices included phones, tablets, Apple TV, Fire TV, PlayStation 4 and 5, Roku, Xbox, and Google TV.
Use an antenna for free broadcast television
An over-the-air digital antenna was the only option that required neither a cable subscription nor an internet connection. Anyone who could receive a local CBS affiliate could watch the broadcast free after purchasing or installing an antenna.
Connect the antenna to the television, then open the TV’s broadcast or channel setup menu. Choose an option such as Scan, Auto Scan, or Autotune. Once the scan finishes, select the local CBS channel.
Menu names vary by television manufacturer, but the basic process is the same. A scan does not guarantee a watchable signal: reception depends on the distance from the transmitter, terrain, walls and other building materials, and antenna placement. Placing the antenna near a window or higher up can help, although results vary by home.

People watching through cable, satellite, or a live-TV streaming service did not need to rescan the television.
Live-TV streaming services that carried CBS
Cable-replacement services were another way to watch without a traditional cable contract. Contemporary viewing guides listed:

| Service | What to verify |
|---|---|
| YouTube TV | That the plan included the local CBS affiliate at the viewing address |
| Fubo | That CBS was available in the subscriber’s ZIP code |
| Hulu + Live TV | That the live-TV package, not the standard on-demand library, carried local CBS |
| DIRECTV STREAM | That the local CBS station was included in the selected market |
Local-channel rights differed by ZIP code. Entering the viewing address during signup or using the provider’s local-channel lookup was essential before paying. A national service name alone did not guarantee access to the viewer’s particular CBS affiliate.
Netflix, Disney+, and the regular on-demand Hulu service were not substitutes. The relevant product was a live-TV plan with local CBS.

Why CBS.com was not a universal free stream
CBS Sports listed CBS.com and the CBS Sports apps as viewing routes, but those platforms required a sign-in through a participating television provider. They were useful for people who already had cable, satellite, or an eligible live-TV subscription; they were not standalone free streaming options for an otherwise unaffiliated viewer.
The Nickelodeon version
Nickelodeon carried a separate family-oriented “Nick-ified” presentation of the game at the same 6:30 p.m. Eastern kickoff. It was not simply another camera angle from the CBS production. The broadcast used its own graphics and presentation for younger viewers.
Nickelodeon’s telecast was distributed as a television-network broadcast. The regular Nickelodeon website was not a general free stream of the game, so viewers needed access to the network through a participating television or live-TV provider.
What about NFL+?
NFL+ promotional material referenced the CBS presentation, but its relevant limitation was significant: live local and primetime postseason games were intended for phones and tablets. NFL+ was therefore not the best choice for someone who wanted to watch Super Bowl LVIII on a television without cable.

The Bottom Line
For Super Bowl LVIII, an antenna was the free broadcast option when a local CBS signal was available. Paramount+ was the most direct paid streaming route, but viewers needed to choose the NFL on CBS feed and meet local-market requirements. YouTube TV, Fubo, Hulu + Live TV, and DIRECTV STREAM also worked when their plans carried the subscriber’s local CBS affiliate. CBS.com, CBS Sports, and NFL+ were not universal television streams for people without an existing provider.
