Where the 2024 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade aired
The official Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade telecast was on NBC. Viewers could watch through a local NBC broadcast station using an antenna, through cable or satellite, or through a live-TV streaming service that carried their local NBC affiliate. Macy’s and NBC also announced a live simulcast on Peacock.
The most authoritative original schedule came from Macy’s announcement and NBCUniversal’s 2024 holiday schedule.

| Viewing method | What it required | Important limitation |
|---|---|---|
| Antenna | A usable signal from the viewer’s local NBC station | Reception and station availability vary by location |
| Cable or satellite | A package carrying the local NBC affiliate | Required an existing pay-TV subscription |
| Peacock | An eligible Peacock account or subscription under the terms available in 2024 | It was not a guaranteed free stream; the 2024 event is now listed as unavailable |
| Live-TV streaming service | A service such as Sling TV, Fubo, Hulu + Live TV or YouTube TV with local NBC access | Local-channel availability and pricing varied by ZIP code and plan |
| Telemundo | Access to the local Telemundo station or the Telemundo app | This was the Spanish-language presentation, not the English NBC feed |
What time did the parade start?
The official broadcast was scheduled for 8:30 a.m. through noon in all U.S. time zones. The clearest way to understand the schedule is that it began at 8:30 a.m. local time, rather than requiring viewers in the Central, Mountain or Pacific zones to convert an Eastern Time start.
| Time zone | Scheduled start | Scheduled end |
|---|---|---|
| Eastern | 8:30 a.m. | Noon |
| Central | 8:30 a.m. | Noon |
| Mountain | 8:30 a.m. | Noon |
| Pacific | 8:30 a.m. | Noon |
| Alaska and Hawaii | 8:30 a.m. local time, subject to local station scheduling | Check the local listing |
Some contemporary television guides described 8:30 a.m. as a pre-show and 9 a.m. as the point when parade action began. That distinction should not replace the official published broadcast window: Macy’s announced the NBC telecast as running from 8:30 a.m. to noon in all time zones. The route’s movement and individual broadcast segments were not necessarily identical to the start of the television program.
How to watch without cable
Use an antenna for the clearest no-subscription option
A TV antenna was the genuinely no-subscription way to watch the official English broadcast. If the antenna received the viewer’s local NBC station, the parade could be watched over the air without paying for Peacock, cable, satellite or a live-TV streaming bundle.
This option depended on local reception. Before Thanksgiving, viewers could check which NBC station served their ZIP code and test the antenna’s signal. A station’s normal NBC affiliation also did not guarantee that every holiday program would air unchanged, because local stations can preempt or replace network programming.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Use Peacock for the official online simulcast
Peacock was the national streaming option identified by Macy’s and NBC for the live 2024 parade. Contemporary coverage generally described access as a Peacock subscriber benefit. The available research does not establish a single 2024 plan, price or universal free offer, so it would be misleading to state that Peacock was free or to reuse an old promotional price.
For a historical description, the accurate wording is: Peacock streamed the parade live as an NBC simulcast, subject to the subscription and promotional terms in effect at the time.
For anyone trying to watch now, the situation is different. Peacock’s current Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade page says the event is currently not available. Availability can change for future parades, but the page should be checked before assuming that the 2024 broadcast can be opened.
Consider a live-TV streaming service
Services including Sling TV, Fubo, Hulu + Live TV and YouTube TV were among the cord-cutting options discussed in contemporary coverage. The key requirement was not simply having the service: the selected plan had to carry the viewer’s local NBC affiliate.
Recommended Free Tools
- Enter the viewing ZIP code on the provider’s channel-availability page.
- Confirm that the plan includes the local NBC station, rather than only on-demand NBC programming.
- Check the service’s current price, device compatibility and cancellation rules.
- Do not treat a free trial as a universal or permanent option; eligibility and promotional terms vary.
A live-TV bundle could solve a local-station problem, but it was usually less economical than an antenna for a viewer who only wanted the parade.
Spanish-language viewing on Telemundo
Telemundo carried a Spanish-language simulcast on November 28, 2024, beginning at 8:30 a.m. / 7:30 a.m. Central. The coverage was hosted by Carlos Adyan and Andrea Meza. Telemundo also directed viewers to its app. Availability depended on the local Telemundo station and the app’s distribution terms.
This was more than a second channel carrying the same program: it was a separate Spanish-language presentation with its own hosts and commentary. The Telemundo viewing details are available in Telemundo’s 2024 guide.

One Telemundo page section contained a date typo referring to October 28, but the page’s headline, metadata and detailed schedule identify the parade date as November 28. That is the date supported by the Macy’s and NBC schedules.
Accessibility: NBC’s audio description
NBC announced live audio description for the broadcast through the television’s Secondary Audio Program, or SAP, channel for blind and visually impaired viewers. To use it, viewers generally had to select the SAP or secondary-audio option on their television, set-top box or provider interface.
The exact controls varied by device and provider, and local station support could affect access. The verified announcement establishes the live audio-description availability; it does not establish that every accessibility feature was identical across NBC, Peacock and Telemundo.
Encore and the Wednesday preview
Encore presentation
NBC scheduled an encore presentation at 2 p.m. ET/PT. Because the announcements do not clearly specify the complete schedule for every U.S. time zone, local NBC listings were the final authority for viewers outside the Eastern and Pacific designations.
Wednesday-night preview
The program Countdown to Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade aired on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, from 8 to 9 p.m. ET on NBC. It was a behind-the-scenes preview, not the Thanksgiving morning parade itself. Viewers searching for the complete parade should not mistake the Wednesday special for the main event.
What if the local NBC station did not show the Macy’s parade?
The phrase “watch it on NBC” referred to the network’s official telecast, but a local affiliate could preempt or replace network programming. The practical alternatives were to check Peacock’s live event listing as it existed in 2024 or use another legitimate live-TV service carrying the national NBC feed.
Detroit exception
Detroit was a notable market-specific complication. NBC affiliate WDIV traditionally carried America’s Thanksgiving Parade, the Detroit event, instead of or alongside the national Macy’s coverage. The 2024 syndication list identified WDIV as carrying the Detroit parade.
Detroit viewers who wanted the Macy’s broadcast should therefore have checked Peacock or another service providing the national NBC feed, rather than assuming that tuning to WDIV would show the New York parade.
Do not switch to CBS for another Macy’s telecast
CBS did not carry its former unofficial Macy’s parade coverage in 2024. Reports at the time confirmed that the CBS alternative was not part of the 2024 schedule. The official Macy’s telecast was on NBC, with Telemundo providing the Spanish-language simulcast.
Can the 2024 parade still be watched as a replay?
Replay availability is the most time-sensitive part of this guide. A contemporary Tom’s Guide article reported that Peacock would offer an on-demand replay. That did not establish permanent availability.
As of August 9, 2026, the official Peacock event page says the parade is currently unavailable. Therefore:

- Do not describe an unofficial YouTube or Internet Archive upload as the official NBC telecast unless its source and rights status have been verified.
- User-uploaded videos may omit NBC commentary or performances and may disappear because of copyright enforcement.
If an authorized replay becomes available later, its current listing—not an old 2024 viewing guide—should be treated as the final source.
Watching in person in New York City
People in New York could watch the parade from designated public viewing areas along the route. The 2024 procession began at 77th Street on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, traveled approximately 2.5 miles, and ended at Macy’s Herald Square.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThe route included portions of Central Park West, Central Park South and Sixth Avenue between 59th and 34th Streets. The New York City event notice contained the relevant 2024 street-closure information.
In-person viewing required planning for large crowds, street closures and security screening. Macy’s advised spectators to avoid bringing large bags, umbrellas, backpacks and strollers. Public viewing was limited to designated sections managed with the NYPD; the entire route did not offer identical visibility.
Herald Square’s televised performance area should not be confused with ordinary public seating. The Playbill 2024 guide reported that grandstand access was not generally available to the public. Watching the parade in person did not guarantee access to the televised stage.
Who hosted and performed in 2024?
The NBC broadcast was hosted by Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb and Al Roker. The announced musical and entertainment lineup included:
- Jennifer Hudson
- Kylie Minogue
- Billy Porter
- Dan + Shay
- Jimmy Fallon and The Roots
- Idina Menzel
- Ariana Madix
- T-Pain
- The Temptations
- Chlöe
- Coco Jones
- Joey McIntyre
- Lea Salonga
- The War and Treaty
Broadway and special performances featured material from Death Becomes Her, Hell’s Kitchen and The Outsiders, along with the Radio City Rockettes. The lineup is useful context for identifying the 2024 broadcast, but it does not change the main viewing answer: NBC and Peacock were the official English-language options.

Can I watch the 2024 parade without cable?
Yes. On the original broadcast date, viewers could use an antenna for local NBC, Peacock for the NBC simulcast, or a live-TV streaming service carrying local NBC. The 2024 event has already aired, and Peacock currently lists it as unavailable.

Was there a Spanish-language Macy’s parade broadcast?
Yes. Telemundo carried a Spanish-language simulcast on November 28, 2024, beginning at 8:30 a.m., or 7:30 a.m. Central. Carlos Adyan and Andrea Meza hosted the coverage, which was also promoted through the Telemundo app.

Was the Wednesday Countdown special the same as the parade?
No. Countdown to Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade was a behind-the-scenes preview that aired Wednesday, November 27, 2024, from 8 to 9 p.m. ET. The main parade aired Thanksgiving morning.
Could people watch the parade in person?
Yes, from designated public viewing areas along the approximately 2.5-mile route from 77th Street to Macy’s Herald Square. Crowds, street closures and security restrictions applied, and public viewing did not guarantee access to the televised Herald Square performance area.
The Bottom Line
For the original 2024 broadcast, the answer was NBC or Peacock: the parade aired Thursday, November 28, from 8:30 a.m. to noon in all U.S. time zones. Telemundo provided Spanish-language coverage, and an NBC encore was scheduled for 2 p.m. ET/PT. Because the event is now historical, check the current Peacock listing rather than assuming the 2024 replay is still available; it currently says the event is unavailable.
